Re: Best way to launch fuel?

Glad it was specific enough to say fuel.
When picking a launching system don't neglect to look at the scoring system, because it is possible to design a shooter that will score you less then the low boiler.
Since this isn't ancient china teams generally don't use a chu-ko-nu , instead people opt for flywheels because you can drop a payload into a flywheel and its gone.
I did once see a triple flywheel design mounted on a claw that actuated and man that thing looked like it was designed to rip faces off...

Re: Best way to launch fuel?

Easiest to package, I'd guess would be a single wheel shooter. It's just a motor, a wheel, and something to guide the path of the fuel on the other side.

Is your team trying to decide which to do? This sounds like a great prototyping exercise. Get some plywood and 2x4's, a couple of wheels, a few motors (or power drills), and have at it.

Re: Best way to launch fuel?

we have a very nice single wheeled shooter with a hood, and we are trying to decide how to adjust the angle, either by bending/compressing the angle of the hood or keeping the hood steady and rotating the entire thing

Re: Best way to launch fuel?

There is no "best", there's only the best that your team can demonstrably accomplish before committing to a final design. Prototype!

Top tier teams will make several different designs work at the highest levels of play; that doesn't mean they are all equally viable or good for your team.

"You don't have to prototype everything, just the things you want to work."

That's dependent on needs and ability.
I can tell you what works in a perfect situation but generally we work with what you have not what you want.

Those are always gated by the fact you need air tanks and those take up space. That's not to say they don't work.

Smile Re: Best way to launch fuel?

I would say something that can just keep launching the balls if it can just be fed
1 robot can sit and shoot while one goes and feeds it balls along with the other robot going and getting the gears
