Just to clarify the 9001 number is approximately the speed we were able to get the wheel to spin at, we didn't try too hard to go much faster than that, but I don't see a need to ever run the wheel faster than that. The Maximum RPM is supposed to convey that the wheel will not catastrophically fail and will still be a wheel at that speed. It is NOT the recommended shooter wheel speed because that calculation has about a dozen variables in it. You will notice that the red 2 inch wheel has a lower Maximum RPM (6000). Above that it is no longer round. It deforms unevenly and turns into a flap.

If teams are thinking of using this as a shooter wheel or fast intake wheel we have posted a chart comparing RPM to diameter for both the blue 4 inch and the black 4 inch. There is no chart for the red 2 inch one because below 6000 RPM it only expands about 0.1in

Also, all 3 have hundreds back in stock, so Buy Buy Buy!

Results of initial test of gear intake using two black 4 inch wheels direct driven by mini-CIMs: they're more effective at pulling plastic off the gear than pulling the gear across the carpet.

It seems negligent to not clarify that on the andymark product page.

Based on the information available on the page, it seems to imply I can safely shoot balls at 9001 RPM all season w/ no concern of failure. Even though it's light, the wheel is storing a great deal of energy at that speed and could cause real injury if the wheel fatigues after X number of shots.

Your problem here is definitely the speed of the wheels. Lots of high-grip style wheels will just fail at high speeds even if they work at lower speeds. 6000 RPM is way too fast for a roller claw style pickup of a non-spherical game piece over a short distance.

I found the blue wheels worked better at gear pickup, but if they spin against the gear while it is held stationary they'll start to shed blue rubber shavings. This is at about 500 RPM.
