Re: WCP: 2017 Product Launch + MCC 2017

Is there any models for the WCP-0133 2" spiral flex wheel available?

Re: WCP: 2017 Product Launch + MCC 2017

I really wonder what these "newer" teams would do or complain about if they were around before 2006 where we had to custom manufacture all of our parts and there weren't many off the shelf items available (yes, build season was still 6 weeks). Stop complaining and find a solution.

(wrote a whole paragraph here and then deleted it because I don't think many understand the risk of making/losing money as a business when your target audience is FIRST robotics; and I don't think it's appropriate for me to explain either.)

I truly believe that given our circumstances and the timeline for build season; WCP, VexPro, Andymark and all our other suppliers do a phenomenal job at keeping us updated and answer all our questions. Yes, parts are late sometime but that is the same problem we face in our "real world" job everyday.

on another note... RC, send me my parts!

Re: WCP: 2017 Product Launch + MCC 2017

Hi PayneTrain,

In my experience name calling a supplier isn't the best way to get results (name calling your neighbor can have similar issues...Ken). Unfortunately I don't think that the name calling solved the problem like you may think. It's probably better to sit down and have a good conversation with your supplier to see if they can suit your needs.

One last thing, why is there a little bit of math going on at the bottom of your message? I've seen that a few times now and neither I or the missus have any clue what it is.

Best Regards,
RM

Re: WCP: 2017 Product Launch + MCC 2017

Long time lurker, first time poster. Is ICQ still a thing (option to add in profile)!? Anyway...

Why the flaming to someone showing their frustration? As a business owner I would want to know candid feedback from customers, not just sunshine and daisies. How else can they improve? Complaining is without question part of the solution. If RC doesn't know people are frustrated nothing will change.

To the comments about this being a niche market: exactly! Build season is no secret and when demand will hit is precisely predictable. This product was announced and put up for sale before kickoff with implications it would be ready to ship within a week. It *appears* they were put up for sale because they knew they wouldn't sell any if they weren't listed until available. I can understand and respect that. What I don't care for is no communication of status and realistic ship dates. This should have been clear in the first post in this thread and updates should have been sent to teams who placed orders.

Also, where is that manual that was mentioned a couple weeks ago?

RC - thank you for the awesome products - just get them out! Seems there is too much on your plate right now and you don't have enough help.

Re: WCP: 2017 Product Launch + MCC 2017

I don't get the huge negative response to that post. I've personally been disappointed with FRC suppliers at times*, and I think it's appropriate to express that disappointment, publicly or privately. In the poster's situation, I would absolutely be disappointed. I don't think anyone (including the poster) thinks any of the FRC suppliers are providing intentionally bad service. Let's not harp on negative feedback; it can be helpful. We all want FRC suppliers to be great and succeed, because even if they were terrible, most of us would still have to buy from them.

*Usually it's things being out of stock, which is extremely understandable

I understand you are frustrated, but insulting RC and his company is not going to expedite anything at all. I know RC personally and the last thing he's out to do is scam or lie to you. It's very hard to run a small business, especially one that only sells to a very specific group of people for a short window once a year and has to fulfill hundreds if not thousands of orders in that time. I know as I speak RC and his crew are working their tails off to get you and everyone else their parts because I guarantee they want you to get your gearboxes as much as you do. So relax and take a deep breath. You'll get your gearboxes and everything is going to be OK.

You're not in a position to guarantee such a thing, and how long do things need to be delayed before it becomes "not OK"?

Doesn't much matter if the parts don't show. Lots of other options become more viable if you'd know you aren't getting the parts until half way through the season.

As a side note, re-read the first couple of sentences in the product announcement. It is implied (stated, even) that there wasn't any sort of long-lead issue with anything in the announcement.

Will get a model up tonight sometime, just added the part a few days ago.

To everyone else, I appreciate the comments. We have been pretty busy, especially this time of year. The DS was listed as TBD when it launched... We expected to ship out week 2, but that was delayed till this week. All gearboxes ordered are going out the door this week minus 2-3 gears we are missing which will be shipped the following week.

All customers are getting their order upgraded to 2 day or just plain ground if your in California.

Email me at rc at wcproducts.net if you have any questions or concerns, I'll try to get back to your email as soon as I can.

Everything we have ordered since kickoff has been shipped with the exception of the dog gears. Are those the gears being shipped next week?

This is really great!

And for what it's worth, WCP just help us out of a sticky situation with some wheels that we had forgotten to order. In a matter of hours they made updates to our order before it shipped out and even made some adjustments to costs.
Though it might be tough to see parts go out of stock or in-stock times delayed, it looks like WCP is going above and beyond in other ways.

Allow me to tell you a story: In 2011 we had 4 CIMs, 4 Windows, and a handful of 500 series motors as useable options for motors. The only manufacturer at the time that sold a reasonable planetary gearbox for them was banebots [1] All gearboxes pretty much went out of stock at the start of build. They stayed that way until middle of competition season. Any team that didn't order week 1 basically couldn't get a viable COTS solution to the problem.

Since then we've added a handful of suppliers who, while they aren't always in stock are far better than Banebots was that year [2]

I know RC, I know he's not knowingly screwing folks over. If he says something external factor is delaying it, that's what's delaying it. At least he's communicating instead of just saying "we'll update the website".

[1] Banebots, manufacturer of the 2007 kitbot transmissions that, if you followed instructions, exploded due to how they were loaded

[2] Banebots was on my BAD SUPPLIER NO COOKIE list for years, honestly, they are still low on my priority list.

It isn't 2011 anymore.

Gearboxes still not shipped. Wheels I called about and was promised would ship last week are not shipped. No communication follow up on the delay, only website now showing late February. Apparently it is too much to ask for some communication to customers on orders that have been delayed beyond what was indicated at time of order.
