We had this exact problem and I can attest to how frustrating it is. The camera light comes on just long enough to make you think it's going to work this time and....not!

We reverted back our Lifecam drivers until we got to 4.25.532.0 and it solved the problem. I'm not at the Kangaroo so I can't past the link, but it was a third party driver site and not Microsoft that we had to get it from. If you can't find it I'll post the link tomorrow.
