Poll: Rope Touch to Touchpad: How long for YOUR climb?

Imagine your driver speeds back to the rope near the end of the match. At what point is it "too late" for your robot to score a CLIMB? The clock starts the first time the rope touches the robot or enters the robot's volume in a match. The clock stops when the robot touches the touchpad.

We want the average, not the best. Save your best for your release video.

We know lifts under 1 second are theoretically possible with 2 775Pro's and/or a tall robot volume. Yet not every team will choose those, or even have 2 motors of weight available for climbing. Also, what about lining up? What about attaching to the rope? What about a less-than-full battery at the end of the match?

Re: Rope Touch to Touchpad: How long for YOUR climb?

Should be 2-3 seconds after touching the rope to start pulling up and 3 seconds to climb it, so to be conservative I picked 6-10 seconds. Climbing is so important that you shouldn't be trying to beat the buzzer for it most of the time.

Whatever your time is, do the math, and don't forget that string wrapping around a shaft makes it bigger.

That feeling when 4 out of 81 individuals admit they won't be climbing. How much of this is a product of non-climbing teams not voting/climbing teams voting more than once, and how much of it is teams biting off more than they can chew?

Not to dredge up the same discussion that pops up every three months, but
A) Representation of climbing teams is almost definitely higher on CD than an ordinary sample of FRC teams, and
B) Unfortunately, a large number of these teams are biting off more than they can chew right now

We'll see. It is good to see that many teams plan to climb. It's also nice to see the usual 5-10% trolling another poll. An average of sub 1-second climbs from first touch to touch pad is highly unlikely with the simpler climbing mechanisms I've seen simply due to likelihood of imbalance or precision needed to line up. Yet there is at least 1 design I now of which can do it with proper motors, gearing and robot weight.

For 'B', it will be interesting to see what % of those teams are simply waiting for the best 'cheesecake' climber to be revealed so they can copy it. Or maybe the Vecro-Around-A-Hex-Shaft works so well a 5-second climb is plausible with just a modicum of patience on the field.
