I've had these arguments before. Essentially, the inconsistency and effort put into a two gear auto is much more than just cheesecaking a gear box and some "go forward" code onto a pushbot.

To do a good two gear auto, you need to:

1. Place your first gear quickly.
2. Vision track to a gear that your partner left on the floor (hopefully). If it doesn't land on the floor, you're screwed. If it's in a weird position, like resting at an angle against the wall or at a 90 degree angle, you're screwed. If your vision tracking software doesn't navigate correctly, you're screwed. This is the hard bit, if you can't tell, and I think maybe 3ish teams in the world have the capability to pull it off.
3. Pick up gear. I personally don't think floor pickup is really worth it, but it does help in certain situations. This part isn't hard if you manage to find the gear.
4. Navigate back to the airship. You're already probably vision tracking the tape next to the pegs, this part isn't hard at all
5. Pilot has to take the gear and slot it in and start the rotor if you want to do a two rotor auto with two robots (this is assuming that the only one of the robots on the alliance is able to place a gear).

Not saying it's not going to happen, it's just really hard and, imho, not worth it.
