Champions of years past

This is my second year in FIRST, and Iwas wondering, who were the winning alliances pre-2002?

Nope, sorry Mike in 1995, our rookie year, we won nationals, not sure what number we were the or who our partners were...

The alliance concept wasn't around in '95... so that win was just your team!

Actually 2001 was my rookie year, so I know the national champion teams were Beatty (71), Beach Cities Robotics (294), Nutrons (125), Miracle Workerz (365), & Tech Fusion (279) (in that order). Finalists included Wildstang (111) and Cheesy Poofs (254).

It was actually team 71, 294, 125, 365, and 279. 71 was the picking team, balancer, and big ball robot, 294 was the 5th seed and handled resetting the bridge, 125 was the big ball limbo bot, and 365 transported the human goal across the bridge. I don't remember what 279 did when they played.

I guess I can forgive a typo of your own team number

Just to summarize every one that I know:

1992 - modern day 126 (team numbers weren't permanent then)
1995 - modern day 100
1996 - modern day 73
1997 - modern day 71
1998 - 45
1999 - 176, 1, 48
2000 - 255, 232, 25
2001 - 71, 294, 125, 365, 279
2002 - 173, 71, 66
2003 - 111, 469, 65

Note: 71 is the only team to win multiple times (3) and the only team to do it back to back.

I'm sure someone else can fill in the 2 years I'm missing.

Actually, MOE (365) handled the bridge resetting (big arm) and the Human player goal filling and transporting. 294 transported the Human goal once in a Newton match. 294 did reset the bridge occasionally but it took longer than when MOE did it with his arm b/c the two bots would get in each other's way. 294 was a good limbo bot. 279 was a big ball bot. It couldn't limbo but it filled in well when Nutrons broke their arm (they repaired it later if I remember correctly). In 2001, alternate teams did not have to play but 279 did.

This Alliance could consistently balance two goals (one human player filled), with two big balls on top, and 4 bots in the end zone in under a minute.

Excellent history.

I can add a few bits:

1992:

126 won (as mentioned before)
190 finalist (as said by nickma)
45 finalist
111 finalist*

* - This Motorola-sponsored team then did not participate in the program until they got back in during the '95 season (is that right?), when they emerged as "Wildstang".

I find it interesting that all 4 teams in the final match of '92 are still in FIRST.

1997: runner up - ChiefDelphi - 47

That was quite a year for the Chief - they also won Chairman's Award.

Andy B.

If my memory serves me correct, this is not correct. I believe it was Texas Instruments and Greenville High School who won Rug Rage. (current team 148?) Nashua won the Chairmans that year I think.

Andy you could be right about Nashua BG I am not 100% sure about that, however it was the X-Cats the won the Chairmans in 94, Nashua High (team 151) won it in 95.

Close. The 1992 team was Wheeling HS and two Motorola engineers. The new team started in 1996 with Wheeling HS and Rolling Meadows HS.
