luck comes in all manner of things for our team it came i a lucky zip tie. It started when i found a zip tie on the first qualifying day at nationals and put it in my headband. immeadiatly following getting the tie wrap my team got over 270 points in the match. And the luck just continued to flow all the way through the finals.
I don't know about all of you but i love zip ties ![]() |

Well, the day before the Rutgers Competition, I sold a bandpass box at work - Model #BB-102. I must have seen that number come up like 20 times at work and school all week long. And whats with all those 102 truck signs on the highway? I want to steal one so bad.

My run of odd luck came at Chicago this year. We had left for the compitition Monday morning to avoid driving through the middle of the night. We got there about 5:00 p.m. Since we had nothing to do, we hung out at a beach near the art center of Northwestern University. We found a tennis ball there and threw it around between two groups of us guys (the girls had a premonition about what would happen later). One throw went high and I jumped up to try and catch it. The ball went straight past my glasses and hit me in the eye. The next day, our practices went great and nothing went wrong. The next morning, rolling out of bed, I hit my head on the nightstand. We won every match that day. I was not injured any further during the day. That saturday we lost every match. A lesson: I have to accidentally hit my head with something every competition day for good luck.

i have often heard the story told on my team about our 2001 bot.
they were having problems getting the robot to function properly (maybe drive train woe, i dunno, i wasn't on the team yet). when they looked, they noticed they had the red lens on the light. someone said "hey, red is for stop, green is for go. let's put the green light on." after this switch out, the robot moved. we still joke about pulling out the old green lens and setting it atop the new light ![]() |

I forgot to mention, we also took bus 102 to the J&J Regional on Saturday when we won it all. The last time we used that bus was in 2000 to take the team to the airport. We were finalists that year. I guess that's just our lucky bus.

The attendants of the St. Louis Regional know that our bot, the Prank Monkey, did not move a lot until the last day of competition. At the St. Louis Regional, I stepped into our pit every day except the last.
Next year, I staying far, far away. |
