College Driver Round

I think a college driver round could be arranged. I know Jake would love a chance to get back on the stick in competition. Last bot he drove in competion was lil' MOE. I know he is dreaming of driving while he is coaching. I would happily provide operator support . Hey I'm electrical, I helped design the switches and the program, I know how they work better than most.

I think that watching bins hit the back wall and popping up shattered is one of the most exciting things that could happen in competion (except of course watching a robot tip.... )

Challenging the legality of this is subjective and that rule is in every manual, when you have a 130lb robot traveling at 14fps at a PLASTIC storage tote weighing no more than 5 lbs towards an inanimate METAL object youre bound to see destruction....

Of the people complaining how many of you didnt cheer when you saw 25 or this evil machine (that i dont recall ever seeing) breaking boxes....come on now guys have a lil fun here this is FIRST

But hey what are we going to do with the bins anyway.
How about this:

Special round scored by how many bins your robot can move from one side of the bar to the other in one minute, without going over the ramp. Ramp closed. Chuck 'em, pick & place over the bar, or push them under, your choice.

re: Lighten Up!

I wasn't trying to offend or anything, I was just pointing out legality under the rules and the fact that it ain't nice to shatter $4-5 a piece bins all over the place. Seems like a waste of money for the little moment of entertainment....'specially with the crappy economy. Off-season comps might have minor issues with replacing bins if they're shattered every round. It adds up. Sure, it's entertaining....but it ain't worth the damage it causes and how much money it costs to replace lots of bins. I agree, if your team prides itself on shattering bins, bring a bunch of em out of courtesy and GP to the post-season events you attend....

Again, my 2 cents

I have seen a lot of you guys saying about the rules. There is one thing that I noticed. The rules about damaging the field did not mean anything. How many times did you see when bins were totally ripped apart. I know that some machines (especially the limbo bots) had a hard time not hurting the field. To DQ teams for this reason, would be insane. If a team finds a way to push bins under the bar, or to distort the box to a more suitable position, all the more luck to them. I know that I tried in the beginning of the season working with that theory, of bins under the bar, and i seen that it could be done by the low riders, but knowing what our bot was going to do, i kind of forgot about the idea of it. I applaud all the teams that took the time to learn the different types of ways bins can be oriented and maneuvered under the bar.

What I always say, think of everything possible and plan to implement it on your bot, and plan to go against it.

Good Luck to all the teams at the invitationals.
