Woo! go no sleep tonight! Oh well, it was worth it....anywho, here are my thoughts:
Special Effects: Really cool. I'm sure you've all read the reviews of them having that character-doubling effect that's supposed to "blow bullet-time away." It was impressive - the fight scene was nice and smooth, and they were right: you can't tell the difference between the real one and the CGI ones. However, I can't really say it was as innovative as bullet-time. When you first see bullet-time, it's something that just completely blows you away... the new effects were cool, but not as innovative as the origional. Fight Scenes: Kung Fu. And lots of it. Oh, and did I mention lots of kung fu? Imagine a gansta movie like Boondock Saints meets Crouching Tiger. Wasn't any of that cheezy fighting either. My only complain is that some scenes they were just completely pulled up by strings. Of course, the strings were erased, but the result was sometimes the action seemed COMPLETELY unrealistic. In the first one, Morpheus said something to the effect that you can't break the rules, you can only bend them. Sometimes they completely broke gravity rather than bending it, and that took away from some parts. Religion: The movie was jam-packed with religous symbolism. Not specific to any real-world religion, though. You know how Star Trek created Klingon to have real grammer, syntax, and vocabulary, and you know how now some people speak fluent Klingon? Well, it's something like that. It was a much more primeval religion. Because of constant martial arts, the religion was also similair to buddhism and meditation-type beliefs. Overall, it gave the movie that mystical spiritual feel and added depth to the movie. Story: eh, I dunno about this one. I came into this movie skeptical; with a few exceptions, sequels are usually cheesy knock-off's of existing successful money-making brands. This was true to some extent, but don't worry - there was plenty to keep you wondering. Overall, this movie had a more philosophical feel to it than the first one (i.e. the religion part). However, looking back, I get the feeling that the story was rather dry. One thing happened, so they had to go do this, and the way it turned out led them to do this. No, it wasn't predictable, but, well, I don't know how to explain it completely. What made the first Matrix so amazing was the character development - Neo, a computer hacker sees that the world over his eyes was a lie and it leads him to see a new world with the eventual rebirth theme at the end. In this one, he's just The One, and he takes full advantage of that. Yeah, he's exposed to some secrets, but there's no real development - no real change; at the end of the movie, he's the same character with the same feelings that he was at the begining. Yes, there is that one WTF at the very end, but it's just that - a momentary thing completely out of nowhere then the credits roll (for those who saw it, you know what it is). If they would have done some more development on this, perhaps some foreshadowing, it would have created some character development. It's also VERY similair to what happened in the first one, so it's almost as if they're reusing ideas. The development of knowledge of the Matrix was pretty interesting. They definately put new things about the Matrix in there. However, that was probably the only redeeming thing about the story. Otherwise, it's everything that you could have guessed from the first one. I dunno - I'm sounding like the story was really bad. It was interesting and good, but I just get the feeling that it was a relatively simple story made to look better than it really was by throwing in special effects and philosophical mumbo-jumbo. That's my opinion, though. Even so, I'm going to see it again sometime, and I recommend all of you do too. [edit]The Frenchie.... oh man... best ever!!! ;-)[/edit] |

There were a lot of parts that were kind of crazy.
Good action. But not between people, there was way too much of that. Jeez. Did anyone stay after the credits? There was a special surprise. ![]() |

I havent seen it, I havent seen the first one, and I have no intention of seeing it, but from what Ive been reading it has gotten mixed reviews. One guy said it was the best movie he ever saw while another group said that "At certain points in the movie, reading a dictionary would have been more interesting.."

DJ:
I can't believe you like the Colorado Avalanche, think the Dallas Stars are a "neutral" team, and haven't seen the first Matrix. You're *way* too sheltered and uncultured . There are some movies that people have to see at least once in their lives, and The Matrix is one of them (imho). For the record, I thought The Matrix: Reloaded was a good movie ![]() |

It was okay.
I wouldn't have trouble thinking of many, many movies that were much better in just about every category this movie tried to excel in. |

Mind blowing. I kno that some ppl say that the plot and story wasn't up to par but i thought it was exellent. The fight scenes were exellent, (noticed that the use the same graphic engine as LOTR) and I thought that the was much better than the first.

I saw it thursday at 4:30 PM. Amazing. The only beef reviewers had with it was that it didn't recap the story of Matrix one. Which I saw more than ten times, so it didn't bother me.
I thought it had some pretty deep stuff about free will in there . . . . And the action, was, of course, exponential growth from the first matrix. Flat out amazing. I was almost jumping out of my seat and cheering. And each time a new group of ASmiths entered "The agent smith fight" Me and my friends doubled over laughing, somehow managing to maintain sight of the screen . . . . it was awesome. I will see it again. At least. |

I was disappointed. From the "ReLoaded" in the title, I thought there was going to be a lot more gunplay, but there was hardly any at all.

They explained the importance of the Keymaker... the door to the Architect was inside that central matrix server-room floor, but that floor has no elevator to it, no stairs to it, yadda yadda yadda. Remember that whole discussion about that building? The only way that Neo could get to the door that leads to the Architect without setting off all of the bombs on that floor was if the Keymaker made a key that got Neo into that floor. "did neo choose to save Zion or trinity?" Self explanitory. Did Trinity die? And your next question answers the thing about Zion. The sole survivor of Zion was the guy that was about to assassinate Neo (in the real world) right before Neo's little buddy called to him. This was also the guy who Agent Smith took over right before he phoned out of the matrix, making us think that Agent Smith made a copy of himself into that one guy and so now he's loose in the real world, further making us think that one guy is the sabateur that caused the EMP to activate early and lead to the fall of Zion. Since he's alive, but our heros don't know he's actually Agent Smith in disguise, that gives us an interesting (but alas, familiar - "I know this steak isn't real - the Matrix is telling my brain that it's juicy and delicious... but you know what? I don't care" anyone?) plot twist. As for why did the sentinals destroy the ship, why did the machines destroy Zion? To elimate the Resistance. Last edited by DanL : 18-05-2003 at 13:17. |
