Re: NEW: British Columbia Regional!

Very cool. If any teams are planning to take Washington State Ferries from the US to Canada (Anacortes, WA to Sydney, BC, just north of Victoria on Vancouver Island), team 3238 would love to help you in any way we can. The ferry only runs once a day so timing can be a pain. Contact Team3238Management@gmail.com.

Will we see any BC teams at PNW district events this year? Pretty easy trip from Vancouver area to Mt. Vernon.

Probably not, since regional teams are not allowed to compete at district events.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I've seen results where out-of-district teams compete in district events (MI teams in IN events for example) but didn't realize non-district teams were forbidden to compete in district events. Seems odd.

Yeah, that's formally called inter-district play, and has some restrictions on top of it. However, the overarching point Brian made still stands.

Re: NEW: British Columbia Regional!

Off-season events, though, aren't bound by the rules surrounding districts... and who knows how the rules may evolve over the next five or ten years?

There will be plenty more robots "declared" at the Pacific Truck Crossing (or Peace Arch) in the future... but finally the traffic won't all be going in one direction!

It's called "don't steal the district points". (Aimed at the regional teams).

District teams can compete anywhere; regional teams can only compete in regionals. District teams can't get points anywhere except their first two plays in their home district last I checked.

Re: NEW: British Columbia Regional!

According to this there's only capacity for 16 teams. Is this correct?

Not quite. There's only open capacity for 16 teams. That's because the Regional Director has reserved the rest of the capacity for rookies/late registration. See also: Reserve Capacity. See also: Why a 60-team event may only show 30 slots (MN).
