FIRST Jeopardy! (5/17)

The Manhatten Project yeilded 3 successful A-Bombs. One was tested, and the other two brought unmentionable havok on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While I won't get into moral issues here, there are 400 points in it if you can tell me the names of those 3 bombs.

There were four.

Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima and contained a uranium core.

Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki and contained a plutonium core.

Fat Man #2 was destined for Sapporo, Japan until they surrendered.

Unnamed Bomb #4 was rostered until the 1950s.

(for some reason I can't edit my post- I'm assuming that is so people can't change their answers)

I just wanted to clear up what I said- I know three bombs were detonated, Gadget as a test bomb, and Little Boy/Fat Man during the war, but I thought the Mannhattan Project actually yielded four bombs? (Anyone else read 'After the Fact' for US History)

We need a venture-type system for these answers where lots of people can get it right... Maybe we can PM Eddie with our answers and he can post the correct ones when he posts the next day's question?

Just have Brandon make it so only Eddie can post in the Trivia Game forum.

I think that is the best solution, as long as Eddie doesn't mind reading through 50-ish PM's and tallying the scores for everyone. =-]

What do you think, Ed? Are you up for making this the best Chit-Chat game CD has ever seen?

These two sites suggest that there were only 3 bombs, with the names I gave above.

This site suggests there might have been another bomb, however, targeted for Sapporo, Japan, like M said. I was having trouble finding reliable information about this "extra" bomb (though I admit to only searching google for five or ten minutes), so if anyone has any sources, post 'em here, cause I'm interested. I read the book Surely You're joking, Mr. Feymen, which in part describes Feymen's expirience working for the Manhatten project, so I find this stuff interesting!

Stephen

PS. There is the chance that bombs after the first three weren't associated with the Manhattan Project. Does anyone know when exactly the Manhattan Project ended, and when these extra bombs were made?

I might, no, I will try a couple of those as test runs in the next few weeks. But could you post your ideas on the poll thread stickied? I do have almost complete power in this forum, so I could just close the thread right when I'm done with it. The only downside I see to this is people would have all day to google it.

Oh, and Stephen gets his 400 points. The answer is Gadget (I also would've accepted Trinity. The test was known by both), Little Boy, and Fat Man.

<edit>Wow, my spelling was bad on that Q. That's what I get for typing fast.</edit>

Also, if I knew of someone who always got the questions right, I could wait for them to answer and then just repeat what they say. Free points, just make sure you answer what the majority said, and ta-da... winner (or tied for winner with the person you copied off of)

[edit]nevermind. i forgot about the 'PM' part of the change..[/edit]

I guess we'd have to rely on gracious professionalism. If you don't know the answer off the top of your head, don't respond. Feel free to google if you want to find the answer for your own personal development, but please don't answer the question.
