From: mr_mr@earthlink.net [mailto:mr_mr@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, June 04, 2003 1:13 PM Subject: [RoboEducators] ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE LATTC ROBOTICS CLASSES ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE LATTC ROBOTICS CLASSES: Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) is creating two FREE* summer robotics courses, starting JUNE 17TH! This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to learn about robotics, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing. And you'll assist the Scarabs RoboCup Team ( www.scarabs.org <http://www.scarabs.org> ) in constructing a SEARCH AND RESCUE ROBOT, to compete against some of the top robotics scientists in the world! BUT... you've got to HURRY!!!!! SPACE IS LIMITED, and the response has been STRONG!! PRE-REGISTER NOW to save your space! Course information: · These are INTENSIVE, HANDS-ON courses: two 5-week sessions, 12 class hours per week. · Times will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 - 9:30 pm, and Saturdays, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. · *The course is FREE for high school students; adults will pay $11. There is an additional $11 health fee for both students and adults. · High school students will earn BOTH COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT. To waive the $11 course fee and receive H.S. credit, they must have their school sign off on their registration form. Forms will be mailed to students after pre-registration is complete. · All participants completing course requirements will earn one unit of COLLEGE CREDIT per 5-week course. · AGE RANGE: 15 to adult. Students under the age of 15 will be accepted ONLY if accompanied one-on-one by a parent or legal guardian during the entire class time. · Course topics include (but are not limited to): o CAD o CNC o Lathing o Milling o Drilling o Other shop skills o Physics o Electronics o Computer programming o Sensor interfacing o Mechanical design o Electrical systems · Students will be free to focus on topics they are interested in. · Some class time may be missed or made up, at the instructor's discretion. · PLEASE keep in mind that these are INTRODUCTORY courses - you're not going to be an expert in ANY of these skills, even if you attend both five-week sessions. · To pre-register, please email your name, mailing address and social security number** IMMEDIATELY to Michael Randall (mentor for the Harvard Westlake Saracens US FIRST team #1148, and Team Coordinator for the Scarabs RoboCup search and rescue team). · **LATTC uses your Social Security number as your student ID. If you do not want to use your Social Security number, provide your phone number - you'll be contacted to make other arrangements. · For these courses to happen, the registrar at LATTC needs at least 25 students to pre-register for each class by JUNE 9TH! (Considering the strong response so far, I do not think this will be a problem). · TO REGISTER: Registration forms will be mailed to you. Students under 18 will need permission from both their parents and their school to attend.
