Forget the FIRST

With all the unfair scoring after the hardwork, I kinda lost
the passion in the Visualization competition. I am looking
forward to having my own work and start off something more
professional. I think you guys would be very interested too
after visiting these sites. Well good luck, I will still submit next
year...but..... yeah...

You know, the scoring is not unfair, I talked to Ted Boardman about this, and he said that nothing should be changed at all, and that is what actuall professionals like to see in an animation, is the content. Its a commercial really nothing else. So it is what the public likes, not what a bunch of geeks behind a computer (your's truely) likes.

Hey the sites are great though, but remember that FIRST tries its best to do what it can do. Not everybody is going to like it.

I have a feeling he isn't talking about scoring, but rather, the way the awards were judged this year. This year it was really really confusing as to how they handle the animation award. There were things like a team won 5 regional animation awards on the west coast... Not saying it's not well deserved, but that team didn't even go to some of those regionals. The amazing thing is, FIRST didn't even know how that award was handled this year. I doubt it was the best FIRST could do.

So, I don't blame him for losing passion about the animation competition. But I know for sure FIRST is going to make it much better next year.

Trust me I know it was confusing, however I do believe first did try hard to do its best. This was brand new this year, and they couldn't have planned everything to go fluently. They also couldn't have known how we as animators would react to how the "judging" was being handled. As you said though, things will improve (hopefully).

I too wasn't too happy with the scoring. I was hoping that the G-3D thing was gonna grow large enough so that our voice could be heard and things be changed. I'm also doing heavy 3d research to make my maxing skill better.

www.3dbuzz.com is one of the best sites out there. I dl'ed 6 gig of content and am going through video after video... Good stuff.

stevek has a spectacular aura aboutstevek has a spectacular aura aboutstevek has a spectacular aura about
I was at the Chairman's Award reception and made it a point to talk to Dean (One-on-One) and then met the person in charge of all the Buiness relationships (IE Autodesk) and she pulled in an Autodesk person the was there and we all sat down for 15-20 min at least. There goal is to make it better. The logistics for this stuff is incredable. Its hard enough finding a facility that can handle the competition smoothly, then you want a quiet room to watch all the animations too! Ha! It really is a tall order. I wont say the Ideas we were throwing around- becuase I dont want ot get anyones hopes up it things chnage. But the gyst of it is that the judging may be finnished before the first competition begins. So the whole pit logistics is not a factor. The hope and goal is still exposure, so the Playing a DVD during any and all downtime was still a strong request. There are other Ideas as well. Just know that between the Championships and the Chairmans award reception I spoke to all the major front liners and they all want this to be a great experience.

But if you keep dis'ing Autodesk and FIRST. Noone will listen to you. Look for solution instead of finding problems. Keep you chin up.

ONE LAST WORD (for now)
If your say you lost your passion because of what somone else does to you, i say You never had a passion to begin with. That may sound harsh. But if you want to succeed, studdy people who hacve succeeded and you will see. There were always those that said they couldnt, and there where other that said they wont let them, what they all have in common is THEY ALL DID IT ANY WAY

Greatest quote of the year. I spotlighted it. This is so true. I know that after the results came out I bashed FIRST, I Bashed Autodesk and a bunch of other people as well. But as I look back, there is not a single thing I would change about the way or animation was done. If you want ot go somewhere else to show off your talent but let me remind you about this thing called G-3d. Animators constantly demand respect and it is deserved but one things we try to keep pointing out is that FIRST is more than building robots and in our case animation. If you are going to let someone's mistake or lower-then-expectations attempt to try to give animators respect then you have learned nothing form FIRST and truly you must move on. Realize that in the real world nothing is fair and that some people get the glory while the one that worked hard are left eating their scraps. Rest assured your time will come for glory but complaining and dissing has never gotten anyone anywhere. Remember that. Sorry if I sounded to harsh to anyone, I don't want to have to defend my words, but this is coming from someone who was so angry with Autodesk fro screwing up and now I can only thank them for giving me inspiration.

until next time....

i agree

Soukup and stevek, I agree with you both. I'm also glad there are some possible changes in how things should be run. One of the whole purpose of me starting G-3d was to boost the quality of submissions with an on-line community that shared information in forms of tutorials, or question and answering in the forum. If we were to have a big membership by most of the animators of FIRST, I know our voice will be heard. There's no way they wouldn't. My dream with G-3d is for an easier way for the communication with the FIRST staff, and other 3D artist to have the 3d part of the competition have as much respect as the physical robotic part.

Despite the upset of this past year I'm going to bring the best out of my team to create an animation better than our previous 2 years. However, I won't expect too much judging and showing wise this go round because I don't want to be disappointed. Hopefully by that time, G-3d will have a great deal of active members to have a greater impact on future FIRST engagements.

I can't quite loose passion for the intensive few weeks, creating a movie just from from thoughts, skill, and shear computer power, resulting in the gained the respect of your team... ...If it's good. Because of this competition, I've learned so much about 3d applications and the knowledge will never leave me. I guess it's easy to after the competition, but the whole creation process. The mind racing, idea's flowing.... good times... can't wait till next year- I'm in charge !!

BE HEARD

Everytime I mentioned the talk of this Forum, the key people I have talked to always said, "I know, I read the Chief Delphi forum all the time"

So I say to you, This is the forum to talk in and this is the forum to get heard in and there is no real need to start somthing new. I know I dont have time to jump around to 20 different sites to keep up on discussions. The people that you want to hear you definately arent going to do that either.

If you want to ask questions and post tutorials and talk with other FIRST Animators, then go no further. Please dont complicate things by starting even more groups.

I may be ignorant on this, but what can be done someplace else that cant be done here (other than live chat).

Bye for now!
