Are there any *good* CAD programs for the Mac? Something a solidworks user would find hospitable? I know there's many out there, but I'm not sure we could get used to it.
Our mentor has a lab full of Macs, and no PCs. Thanks. ![]() (BTW, I'm not a Mac person. Just our mentor. Go XP! ) |

Our school gave us Macs and 9 is fine, but X is better.
I think AutoCad has one out. I'll talk to Gabe and you may want to post it under Techincal Disscussion for some more posts. |

Check this out
go to www.madaboutmac.com and click on the CAD to get a complete listing, these programs from what I heard are about as good as AutoCad and Inventor
There are a lot of CAD programs out there for Macs, Maya, they say has the best CAD program built into it, however it is $1,000 eductional. Last edited by Kyle Fenton : 30-01-2002 at 20:39. |

Isn't Alias|Wavefront coming out with a free version of their Maya Builder Complete for people to use in non-commercial projects? I think it works for Windows and Mac OS.

In my mind, Macintosh CAD is not a good thing..
I say that not because of the programs or because of the system, but since the industry is on Windows Standard (mainly AutoCAD and Autodesk Products from what I have seen) it might be a waste of time to learn skill son mac only to have to relearn them when you get a job in the realworld Just my 2 cents Gabe |

Anyways that applies to all programs. Once you learned it, you have learned it. There is more to the world than Autocad and Inventor. Autocad and Inventor are toys compared to some of the UNIX programs custom build for big business. I not saying these programs aren't powerful, they are for a desktop computer. So there is no "Industry Standard" per say on anything. |

Phostoshope is the same program on Windows and Mac
AutoCAD is not the same as solidworks I have been to local engineering firms..and ..almost everyone of them uses autodesk or windows products..i.e. LDD, MechDesk, ArchDesktop, Inventor, 3dStudio, ect And Autodesk inventor is for industrial work....I dont think youhave seen all the capabilities of it go to www.autodesk.com to learn about it Gabe G. |
