question about contacts

I have a little problem. I might have to wear glasses all the time now and I don't want to. I would get contacts except for one thing, my eyes are so sensitive that if anyone or anything touches them, I go crazy. It is like tickling an extremely ticklish person. When a lady was putting eye drops in my eyes and she pulled my eye lid up to get it in, I punched her in the face...well, she blocked my punch, but you get the idea.

Anyways, my eyes are so sensitive that I can't open them far enough to get contacts in and I can't stretch it open.

I was so mad about wearing glasses all the time so I forced my eye open and I got it open almost enough to get my finger in between my eye lashes. That was only the left eye though.

I was wondering if anyone thinks that it would be enough to get contacts in and out. I was also wondering if anyone else has very sensitive eyes like that.

Sounds like me.

Keep poking it at (no pun intended) it took me a long time to get it. Once I got them in once I could do it over and over again. And little hint, when you do get it in DON'T BLINK! for like ten seconds to be safe.

I might have trouble with that then. I blink constantly. The more I try not to blink, the more I have to blink.

I just got contacts today... I had a little trouble at first. I couldn't get my eye open wide enough for long enough without blinking. After about an hour of work, I was able to do it, and the second time was much easier. It's definitely something that will take some getting used to.

I used to be the biggest pansy ever when it came to sticking stuff in my eye, but I managed contacts.

After a bit of practice, you will become nearly immune to things touching your eye. Seriously.

Get the contacts, and practice taking them in and out. You'll get a demonstration from your eye doctor or whatever. It took me probably twenty minutes to get them in the first time, and I think the lady who was assisting me was getting pretty irritated.

You will need to hold your eye open wide enough to see the white above and below your iris, and after you put the contact in, you'll need to keep it like that for a few seconds. It might seem impossible now, but you'll manage. I promise.

Yeah, I'll just stick with the glasses...

Plus, you can't play with contacts when you're bored in class .

That's what you think, who here escaped a math test because he popped a contact and had to go to the nurse? *keeps hands down* I'm saving it for trigonometry next year.

I prefer glasses anyways, just for the sake of aesthetics.

I'm one of those people that (even before getting contacts) would put their fingers in their eyes just to freak out people like you, so adjusting to contacts wasn't so bad.

but yeah. once it's in, don't blink for a couple seconds, or it'll come right back out.

and contacts really aren't that troublesome. glasses always came off at inopportune times (during sports, for example) and got in the way of safety glasses. wearing contacts is like having 20/20 without lasering your retina. I put my contacts in in the morning, (it helps waking up, too - ::snore:: :OKE:: :OKE:: "ok! i'm up already!" - haha) and take em out at night, toss em in the trash (i have dailies) and go to bed.

either that or i leave em in cause i don't feel like taking em out. whatever works. glasses were always lost or broken or fallen into odd cracks between my bed and the wall.

and i could never find them.

I bought myself contacts when I was 16 and I absolutely hated them and threw them away three weeks after getting them.

I recently considered getting them again but my beloved Picklehead threw a fit when I mentioned contacts because he loves how I look in glasses. The other thing that would stop me from getting contacts is my photophobia which is a sensitivity to light and excessive contact wearing can cause it which would not be good since I already have it. My light sensitivity causes migraine headaches with severe vision distortion. Normal vision distortion for migraines is black spots, for me, black and white becomes super sharp, and I get a weird sort of tunnel vision, and it often looks like things are melting (first time I ever got a migraine was in high school and I thought I had stepped into the Twilight Zone because I looked over at my friend and her face was melting, it was really freaky). I currently take Inderal to prevent migraines and MaXalt to treat them if the Inderal doesn't work (or if I forget to take the Inderal, which is more often the case), so I don't get them much, but I wouldn't want to increase the chance of getting one by wearing contacts.

Heidi

I think you are both wrong. It is me.

I am worried that if I actually do get them in, I won't be able to get them out. I was also wondering, if I blink when I put them in, and someone said they would fall out, would that hurt?

Getting them out is the easy part, and it normally doesn't hurt when you pop em out by accident or on purpose. Also if it feels weird after you put it in, stop, take it out, clean it and put it back, you'll regret leaving it in later.

I am at the point now where I can open my eye enough to see the white bellow the irus, but the top eye lid lines up with the top of the irus so I can't quite see the white part. Another problem now is that I have really long eye lashes. When I open my eye, I am not sure if I will be able to get anything in because my eye lashes cross in the center.
