The Hurricane
Well, as you know Hurricane Isabel is hitting the US tomorrow. In particular, North Carolina and Virginia. And guess where I live!
I'm in Virginia, but my family is taking a 2-day trip to Tennessee... However, before I leave I'm going to have my camera record a time lapse outside my window. It will record 1 sec. every 5 minutes, on a 30-min tape. It should record for about 150hrs. Before the tape fills. Anyway, when we come back (If we still have a house) I'll upload some good parts of the clip and post a link here. Last edited by Sachiel7 : 17-09-2003 at 23:26. |

I sort of like old Isabel, especially since I just found out my office will be closed tomorrow... and a co-worker who was sure her garden will not survive the storm, brought us in some fresh veggies today and the cherry tomatoes are fantastic...
I think they're over-reacting here, but that's typical for our area. Best of luck for those in coastal towns in Isabel's path. Heidi <=======> now wondering what a garden being ravaged by hurricane winds would look like... Last edited by MissInformation : 18-09-2003 at 14:36. |

... fearing the force of the storm.. I was gonna try to get back inland to home. HAHA! I found out last night that the projected path is home... so, guess I am safer here. I just hope the power stays on!
Best Wishes to all whom are awaiting the arrival. |

Its unbelieveable, Im watching MSNBC right now and they recently went to a remote broadcast in Virginia Beach with Brian Williams. Brian was hanging on for dear life doing his report and he called his friend from the weather channel over to get a wind reading, they both were literarly blown away and the weather channel guy ended up falling over and blown even further. This is crazy!

Stand Back!
No, I actually mean it this time. I hope nobody is stupid enough to stick around in a storm like that. Last time a hurricane hit RI (Bob in '91), I was camping in NH. And it was probably better I was. While the house was fine (a few veggies thrown about and a window shattered), anything directly on the ocean in Newport was totally destroyed. It took them a year just to rebuild the beach. Although had it not veered off at the last minute, it would've been more like the one in 1938, with total winds at about 200 MPH hitting Newport and the bay, and having the snow-plow effect causing major flooding. At least the people in the Carolinas don't have to worry about getting the nasty right side of the hurricane. |

Speaking of natural phenomenon, I have an interesting question to pose to all of you.
"Why don't tornadoes have names?" This was a question on a co-worker's sons homework the other night, and I thought it was interesting. |
