BASIC Stamp as a server

Has anyone read this:
http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=30005

Now you can use a Parallax (I think PBASIC) Stamp as a webserver. This is really cool. I dunno how well it is (I'm not that rich), but it's cool non-the-less.

Yes I saw that a couple days ago. Cool idea but too expensive for the little it does. Other companies make better cheaper ones. I guess it is cool in the fact that it is so small and you can embed PBASIC variables into your webpage to be updated in real time.

Nice. As far as the cost though, Basic stamp stuff imho has always been overpriced.
None the less,it looks cool, and i wouldn't mind having a few.

They've already made a webserver out of a PIC microprocessor a couple years ago. Since the Basic Stamp is nothing but a hopped up PIC, it makes sense.

PIC server
Smallest server

See here for a history of the small webserver.

I have a SitePlayer, and I have to say, it's pretty cool. 8 GPIO lines can be very useful, but 14 could be even cooler. Pricewise, this BS-based thing is a little much, though ($100 for the dev kit plus one unit, compared to $250 for a bulky system). You could mux 256 digital inputs onto the 8 lines on the SitePlayer, if you wanted.

But anyway... Jnadke, while the BS1 and BS2 (no modifier) run on PIC16C57's (I believe), all of the other BS2s (SX, E, PE, P, and whatever else they have) are based on Scenix MCUs. It probably wouldn't be too hard to implement a TCP/IP stack for it, though.

Heh, try writing the entire system for a BS. I dare ya.

PS. Just FYI, I am not a big fan of Parallax, in general.

I also have old free computers that run as webservers . Any old computer I get, throw linux on it, throw apache on, instant webserver. It'll work every time . Plus, it's all free.

Hmmmm..., maybe somebody should set up their robot like this. It would be a great mobile server.
