If I had to guess?

I'd say that it moves in between two goals, latches onto them, and pulls them inward toward the robot.

Simultaneously, the goals are lifted up off the ground onto those large arms. The arm, as you can see, is attached to a drill motor, and can rotate. This can have some advantages.

They've got a four-motor drive train, too. It uses the Chiaphua's geared down to the drill motor's 'high' setting, and all four motors feature a pneumatically driven, 'on-the-fly' transmission.

Very nice.

Unhappy Be Afraid... Be very afraid...

As if the shifting on the fly isn't enough, having a 4 motor drive train will only make it worst. If you look closely at the gear shifter, you can tell how much different the ratio will be. I suspect with 4 motors, it can achieve a top speed of more than 13~14 ft/s... Mean while, an extremely slow speed of 1~2 ft/s to push forward in low gear...

I expect the rotating arms aren't finished... There will be something extra powered by the seat motor at the end of the arm. With a drill motor controlling the arm, it can easily get goals and spin them around with about 20 robots attached to it. Well, actually, it will be strong enough to rotate 2 goals, and probably a robot attached to one of the goal.

I suspect the two yellow pole at the and of the arm are pivots for some really really strong claws. Because it doesn't make sense for the seat motor's flexible shaft to be exposed like that. However, it could be really likely that the seat motor will be used to raise up the goal. Ah, that make sense... a hook like device, or some latches that will attach to the goal pole that will slide up and down on the yellow pole, and the seat motor attachment under it will be pushing the latch/hook up and down on the pole.

Hmm... the hooks/latches should be pointing forward or some how rotating, so they can grab both goal by running straight into them... Or else they will have to grab one goal at a time and rotate the arm to grab the other one...

Be afraid... Be very afraid...

I saw ONE picture of this year's robot (on the front page) and a bunch of last year's in the picture galery. Is that what you were looking at? If not, where did you find 10 pictures of this year's 'bot?

As you see on the second page, they have the finished hooks attached to the arm...

I KNEW those hooks are going to look like that before I even saw the second page of pictures.

Very nice looking robot from team 60. (Again!)

Very impressive...

Look to Kingman to win at least one more bit of plastic to their trophy collection.

Very nice design.

Joe J.

P.S. I wonder how well or poorly it turns? Lot's of traction with 4WD. Maybe they have to shift to low gear to turn?

Question; Please explain, if they shift on the fly how do they avoid the gears from shearing off when they go from low to high and vice versa?

change of color theme?

If i remember correctly, wasn't Bionic Bulldog's color theme blue and yellow the last two years? Just wondering why they changed it to yellow paint and red anadization.

Shift on Fly?

From the looks on the pics i dont think they will be shifting on the fly....but they will be able to shift....

If i'm seeing this all right i bet they come to a stop to shift...and the pneumatic moves the gear back and some sort of software code runs through a "shifting" program that will moves the gears back and forth until they align in the high gear position or the low gear position...

But, i could be wrong

That robot is awsome looking. It has a great concept. I was wondering though. We got a new type of seat motor gear box to convert from x to y axis this year instead of the old flex cable from previous years. I assumed that everyone got this. I see that 60 is using the flex cable, did anyone else get that this year?
