Frank(Aflak) is on a distinguished road
You know your school is warming to FIRST when they set their fundraiser on the job to raise money for the robotics team.

Backstory: I go to SLUH, a Jesuit institution, and much of the schools cash flow comes from alumni and local business. Last year wasn't an issue because we got the NASA grant, but to get the NASA grant again this year, we need to show 6K of our own funding. When the administration got word of this, the told us not to try to do it ourselves. There reasoning is this: Say we (the robotics team) manages to procure a few thousand dollers from a local business. When the school's guy calls that same business to push for, say, 20K in donations, the business can say "we already donated to your team etc." and the school has lost that valualble source of $$. On the other hand, if the school's guy calls the same business without our having called them, he can say: I need a whole lotta money and lots will goto our robotics team. then the business will say: We will sell our company to our competitors and give you all the proceeds. And everyone is happy.

So we have professionals doing our fundraising. How awesome.

When you know your principal doesn't want to deal with the team anymore, and you know that no teacher wants to mentor the team either, yet you still get a mentor from elesewhere and get[/i] a workspace and are still the most spirited, craziest team at competitions.

With a slogan like "Feel the burn of the spicey mustard" and with a robot that, if I do recall correctly, was made of couch material, how could you NOT be the craziest team at competitions?

...Well...Combbat does get a bit pysched about competition too, but its definetly a close call between the two.

Yes, Spicy is wooden (stained wood, of course...to be pretty) and has upholstered bumpers.

When to help keep the team going (due to lack of teacher involvement) you volunteer to be one of the adults in charge of the room and have to go through a security check which involves a TB test (needles, yuck!) and fingerprinting (and getting lost trying to find the fingerprinting place, sigh) and then, after you watch the room as the only adult (well there was one engineer there who shall remain nameless who is absolutely horrible at keeping order) in the room and you find out just how bratty the kids can be when they write rude and obscene things on the dry erase board, swing chairs at each other, and you catch one of the new kids getting ready to shove a paper clip into a wall socket while two of the returning members look on laughing... all this, and yet it's still not enough to make you run screaming in the opposite direction...
