Go to Post I swear, sometimes it seems like FIRST has got a room full of monkeys writing code. Maybe the monkeys should spend less time flinging fecal matter at each other and more time testing the code before posting it :-). - Kevin Watson [more]

Reusing Parts

Ok, mainly this is the deal. I have my wonderfully awesome crab drive design. This is the first year we actually have a bot left over from the previous year...I won't go into details there, but basically our team has been reformed a few times. Anyway, I just wanted to know what kinds of parts can be re-used from year to year. We have more than enough sprocket/chain/shafting on our 2003 bot for at least half the drive system I've got, and this would greatly take a chunk out of cost. So here's a list of the things I'd like to know if we can reuse:

-Sprockets
-Chain
-shaft
-Metal pieces(angle, for example)
-Wheels? (I don't plan using them in my design, but I thought I'd ask)
-Plexiglas (just curious)
-Small things (bolts/screws/other fasteners)

I would assume we can reuse most of these items. There really isn't anyway for FIRST to check if it's reused anyway, but I'm guessing that their original price will need to be included in the $3,500 cost list we need for inspection. It would also seem rather redundant to spend hundreds of dollars for things we already have. I've heard of team's stripping their bots for parts, but what's actually getting used?
