Where are they now?

All this talk of the 13 year teams has me wondering, where are they now?

The first students that went through the program are now about 30 years old. What are they doing now? Has there been any effort to asses what they are doing vs the rest of the population of their school? What percentages are invloved with another FIRST team? Have any mentors been around that long or have they all burned out/moved on?

Mayhaps someone on these teams has a roster from 92 and will be willing to try and track them down.

For that matter, anyone that was on a FIRST team before 1997 has had a change to finnish college and go onto the 'real world' (or graduate school), where are they?

I heard someone from Raytheon speak at the SoCal regional about how they started sponsering teams 8 years ago, and are beggining to see the kids come out of the HS/college into the workforce, and are comming to work for them.

I am looking for any real information on this, not I head that someone is working now, but this many students are doing x, this many are x, this many can't be found.

Well for starters,

The head engineer from 45 in 1992 is or was Andy Baker's boss (Im pretty sure of this)

The head teacher on 45 has been involved since 1992.

Other then that I have no idea

Team 111 currently has 5 mentors that are former FIRST students, and I believe there are several others who were in FIRST in high school that now work at Motorola but don't participate on our team.

My first year in FIRST was 1995, when there was only 43 teams at the Championship! Back then I remember it being a big goal of Dean's to break the 100 team mark.

It would be an interesting (although difficult) exercise for a team to look up its roster from its first year in FIRST and find out where everyone's at. Personally I only know the status of about 5 of my teammates from '95-'97, and 4 of them have graduated college with engineering degrees.

Two Dillard students that started team 108 are now both Motorola engineers and work with the SOAP team. Not too sure about any other alumni.

One of the NYC teams I mentor is involved with a FIRST program that tracks their progress from HS, college, and afterward.
The students have to fill out extensive forms about themselves, what their goals are, where they are going, and etc. Even has parent information.

Look like FIRST is putting a lot of effort in verifying that their program is making a difference.

But Anyway- two of my FIRST students are now interns with my company. Really hard workers and learns quick. (good price too)
They do as much work as the full-time engineers on my staff.
