Rendering on Unix

Hey, i got a question. Is it, in any way, possible to render out an animation created in Max, on a machine running a version of unix? (particuary sun os or solaris). Like, network rendering? I looked in the help files, but i couldn't find anything. Any siggestions? We got a hold of a Sun System which runs solaris ans sun os.

Hmm. Could be sweet for gaming though!

I doubt it... with Max's renderer... however...

You could try exporting... does max allow export to renderman? If so, use Aqsis.

Re: Rendering on Unix

There's always Persistence of Vision (www.povray.org). It's an open source ray tracer and there are some Solaris ports out there. It's been around for a while, but it can compete with commercial renderers in many cases. Its output can be pretty impressive. Plus there's an MPI-based version (that's for Beowulf clusters).

My team, through an unbelievable stroke of good luck, has access to a 4 teraflop cluster from one of our sponsors so we're trying to figure out how to get from Maya to POVray.
