QotW 11-16-03: Expectations.

FIRST participants are the only people I know who eagerly anticipate the end of Holiday break. This week, we're looking past that great big bird and those menorahs and yuletide greetings and imagining ourselves about two months into the future.

Question of the Week 11-16-03: What are you most looking forward to in the 2004 season?

A simple question, I think. So, let's hear some answers

I'm expecting a lot out of the 04 year.

This is my first year of me NOT being on the student side

This is my first year not being "full time" on a team

This is my first year being 300 miles away from my affiliated team

This is my first year of giving advice when I'm asked for it (agian - from an adult side)

This year is going to be something fun yet hurting for me. When I went to Sweet Repeat - that was probally the most fun that I've had - but also the most hurt that I've felt. To watch my team and know that I couldn't be down there to do something. Yet rooting for my team and other teams, to actucally get to know my team from the stands when we are watching our robot out on the field - to know what they are saying, to see all the students involved from a totaly new view. Everything changes when you graduate from high school and you are looking at everything from an adult perspective. I just wish that the current engineers could of done this when they where young (when they had dinosaurs as pets ) I am expecting this year to be more fun than my first year from the student stand point...

MWA! Don't get to excited yet, sonny boy, because there are quite a few others with thier eyes on that prize!

<cough><cough>ME<cough><cough>

Though perhaps we could be a winning alliance together? Victory is indeed possible for the both of us...

Though actually I must say that what I am most looking forward to is getting to program the robot in C.

To quote a good friend...
"Yay for a programming language in which "If - Then - ELSE" isn't a major breakthrough!"

Ohhh, well theres lots to look forward to. Too much to post here, but in a nutshell:
-We've got a smaller team again, yay!
-The game, from things I've heard this year it'll be pretty good...I'm getting hyped over it already...
-The new controls
-Possibly getting in and going to nats? We'd love to, but we're not sure if we'll end up raising enough money.
-Going to 2 regionals. We've been doing 1 for two years now... we kinda want to break the habit. But, we're on the waiting list, so I doubt we'll get in. But hey, we only need 1 more point to get into nats, I think. Maybe we could use the money we (supposedly will) gather for our second regional and put it toward nats instead...not sure
-ETC.
It's just going to be a great season. I can feel it already. It's pumping through my system right now.

I'm just waitin' for the curtain to fly 01/10/04!
(ooh... I think I'll add that into my sig!)

Everything that was last year, and more. The Chesapeake Regional, the New Jersey Regional, and, of course, Nationals. I can't wait to see what our team and all of the other amazing teams out there come up with. I can't wait to see the next generation of rookie teams, and watch them go through FIRST. It will be alot different having some experience under my belt.

#1 most important thing, Mrs. Kopczyk's Saturday lunches!!! During the build season, on the Saturday's when we're at GM, Mrs. Kopczyk makes lunches, and she is the best cook ever! Seriously though, Definately the competitions. The competition season just has something about it, I don't know, everyone's so excited, so pumped, I think competitions even better than Dean Kamen could have ever imagined.
