Because of the ridiculously small desks here, I have a 15' flat panel from Gateway.

I think the desk only looks small, when dwarfed by a 15 foot flat panel.

Elgin, There is quite a difference between a 17" CRT and LCD, perhaps you should put in seperate options for CRT and LCDs. And can you show me a monitor that is more then 1 size?

I love my light laptop beast..14.1" lcd there.

21" CRT, both at home and work.

My first computer (IBM PS/2 model 50) had a 12" monitor and a 20mb hard drive (don't forget that optional math coprocessor too!). AutoCAD ran like a dream on it (made me tired from waiting), and the dot matrix printer was great for printing out 40 page term papers until it jammed around page 39.

Computers have come a long way in the last 20 years (even 5 years). Stepping up to a 17" CRT was great back in 1996, and now I wouldn't want to live with anything smaller than a 19".

With the introduction of LCD displays, you can pick up a fairly cheap used 19-21" CRT at your local mom 'n pop computer store. While the footprint is large, it's the screen that's ultimately used

I did not know that there was a difference in sizes betweed lcd and crt.. hmm.. imagine that!! Learn something new everyday!

As for the multiple choice option, I did that so you can put in the sizes of different screens that you use like DJ Fluck did.

Like as for me, I use a 15" at my mom's, a 17" at my dads, 19" at school, and 21" at work. <I am spoiled at work!> lol

So that I think that answers the size question.

Also, see my other poll HERE if you haven't already checked it out!

The reason I am doing this is to make our new team WEBSITE adapt, or at least standard for the most popular or most used monitor size and resoulution out there in FIRST land!

Monitor resolution is really more important than size. There was a similar question asked for website development you might want to check it out.

Wow!! Let me wipe the drool off my shirt collar before someone sees me oogling that 23" cinema LCD. I guess those big CRT displays really are a sort of dying breed.

LCD sizes report the true size of the screen. Monitor sizes are the size of the screen plus the surrounding frame. CRTs also report a viewable size which is equivilant to a LCDs size.

For example, a 15" CRT will often have a viewable size of 14". A 17" CRT will have a viewable size of 16" or so. Sometimes, 21" CRTs will have a viewable size as low as 19.5"

Another part is the perceived size. The 18" LCDs at school look bigger then the 19" CRT (18" viewable) that I have now.

I replaced my parents 17" CRT with a 15" LCD and haven't heard any complaints (we'll see what happens when he reads this thread, though

p.s. of course, I have complete display-envy over the guy who works with me that has FIVE 23" HD displays arrayed across his desk! His favorite quote is "when you are looking at the whole solar system, you need a LOT of display area!"
