You know that it's pretty bad when even over here at UCLA we feel slightly bad for USC. Our sympathy is of course limited though, as most of us will be cheering for Michigan (right Jeff?) so that USC doesn't win in our home, the Rose Bowl.

As for UCLA, we'll be playing in the Silicon Valley Bowl. How come when I hear Silicon Valley, I think robotics regional instead of college football?

For some reason I dont think the Kansas St. win was a miracle, throughout the whole season I've thought that Oklahoma was over rated and many people, including the guys on ESPN thought that Kansas St. had a very good chance of winning. Kansas St. brought the game and laid it down on Oklahoma proving they weren't as good as everyone else thinks they are. My team Purdue will be playing in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando and I'll be rooting for em.

Re: I hate the BCS and i really ha te KANSAS ST.

i have to disagree because they did have the number one offense in the nation and like the saying goes a win is a win and a loss is a loss and k state has three! texas only has 2. one of texas's wins was against whom? k state

Re: I hate the BCS and i really ha te KANSAS ST.

Jon- Regardless of whether Oklahoma or K. State won on Saturday, the BCS standings would still be the same. Oklahoma would be in 1st, LSU in 2nd, and $C in 3rd. The deciding factor in $C's drop to 3rd was Notre Dame losing to Syracuse, hurting $C's strength of schedule/quality win, as well as Hawaii losing to Boise State, also affecting their strength of schedule/quality of win.

$C can still win "half" of the national title if the AP votes for them after the Rose Bowl. I do agree that the BCS sucks. I have dubbed it the "Bloody Crappy System" its a lot like the electoral college if you think about it, since the popular vote doesnt always win.

[edit] since Kristy has been pestering me for hours (well, not quite ) Im going to have to give her credit for coming up with "Bloody" to go with my "Crappy System"

MY BCS opinions

The BCS was formed so that "split" National Championships wouldn't occur. Now that is has a possibility of happening, I say get rid of it, or change the formula. The fact is that USC got SCREWED. They are ranked Num. 1 in both human polls and not playing in the national title game, c’mon. I fell that there should be some sort of plan that guarantees that if the human poll number one should automatically play for the title.

3 out of the 6 years that BCS has gotten it wrong. Once again they are wrong, Oklahoma has no business play against LSU. USC won the Pac 10, LSU the SEC, and Oklahoma LOST the Big 12 championship game. Yet OU still remains at the number 1 rank. I hope that LSU spanks OU so that it is proven that they should have been there in the first place. It is just like two years ago when Nebraska got in and was killed by MIAMI (I’m a CANES fan so that’s why its capitalized).

I personally fell that the best solution to having a sole Nat’l Champ is to have a playoff system. The top 8 ranked teams (use the old BCS formula or a similar version) and 1 play 8, and so on. Have these games take place where the old BCS games did so that the money will still be made. You can also have the lower-lever bowl games still be played. This way the NCAA will make the same, if not more, money than they did with the old system. The playoffs work in Div. 1-AA, 2, 3 so why can it work in 1-A. I say you give it a try like you did the BCS and if it doesn’t work then ah well.

I am done with my rant and if you don’t agree with some of my opinions or just want to talk about it, you can IM me: linkinman8, send me an e-mail, or a PM.

Of course, the BCS ignores the fact that there will be controversy whenever there are an odd number of teams with the same record at the top, or when there is only one team with the best record and more then one team with the second best record. Since that happens almost every year, there will always be problems with the BCS.

The BCS gets the job done better than anything else that we have (determines the 2 best teams in the country)

Playoffs arnt gonna work

Human polls are biased

I still like USC more than LSU, b/c their offense is just amazing, but thieir coach did the right thing by being classy about it and saying they couldn't do anything else after beating oregon

Maybe their Athetic Director will try to schedule harder teams for the future, maybe they will learn their lesson now.

And it is their fault their not in, they did lose remember

Excellent point. Any of the top 3 teams could have silenced all critics by not losing. Perhaps we shouldn't point out the shortfalls of the system but rather those of these 3 teams...
