ChoicePoint screening
When I found out that ChoicePoint was going to process the volunteer screening for FIRST, I did some research on the company. I found some surprising information; I wonder if it's possible that this information is true. Here are a few examples of what I found: ChoicePoint manipulated data in the 2000 Florida election to exclude some people from voting. (see: http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=217&row=1) ChoicePoint purchased illegal information about citizens of Latin America, especially Mexico. (see: http://www.ajc.com/business/content/...oicepoint.html http://www.americas.org/news/nir/200...xican_data.asp http://www.talkleft.com/archives/005037.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/...949606,00.html) In the US ChoicePoint has a few cases in the courts for illegal gathering and selling of information about drivers' records. (see: http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_...icepoint2.html) ChoicePoint had a security breach in their computer network; it was possible to access their internal data without a password. (see: http://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,49893,00.html http://www.landfield.com/isn/mail-ar.../Jan/0155.html) Kenneth Langone, chairman of ChoicePoint, was involved in the NYCE scandal (see: http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/s...06/story4.html ) ChoicePoint's databases are inaccurate. (see: http://www.fbifile.com/fbifile-sample.html ) ChoicPoint sold insurance information. (see: http://www.insurancejournal.com/maga...ures/19186.htm) And a few general articles about ChoicePoint: http://www.topdog04.com/000145.html http://archives.abditum.com/cypherpu...0407/0252.html http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=203&row=1 http://biz.surfwax.com/files/ChoicePoint_Inc..html |

Re: ChoicePoint screening
I didnt read through all the links you posted, but the first one is from someone selling a book about the florida elections, and how President Bush 'stole' it.
I would hardly call that an objective opinion - How did the author verify that >90% of the people taken off the registration lists actually WERNT convicted felons? I have always understood that once you are convicted of a felony, you loose your right to vote, and not only in the state in which you were convited, in all 50 states. The first link sounds very skewed and biased - making major claims and accusations - and he is selling a book - so its hardly an objective report. |
