Exclamation Robot holding a ball... WIP ..image

hi everyone...pls gimme some comments on my latest work: A robot carrying a heavy load... it is kind of a logo thing... although it is still a work in progress. One thing that REALLY bugs me is that the hands are too terminator esque and kind of scary and don't match the cartoony head... i really like the head but the hands don't quite fit..? do you agree... any comments welcome!

That's amazingly realistic. I love high quality stuff, and that's definately high quality... one question, how did you get it to look that realistic??

Good job!

When I went to the site, I couldn't view the one w/ text....it came up w/ Tripod's hotlinking/over-your-bandwidth-limit image.

Re: Robot holding a ball... WIP ..image

I'm sorry about the overbandwith issue....my host sucks if too many people view an image then...it is unavailable.
To get it to look realistic i basically use 3 steps:
1. Attention to details...thats important...use high polygon stuff 18 sided cylinders=NO
(unless it is small) put details like grooves, bolts etc.
2. Lighting... use lights...correctly
3 MATERIALS !!!!! use raytraced materials on any reflective surface, keep an environment map that is high res and good quality.
Use procedurals they are better and take less memory too..
hope that helps

Re: Robot holding a ball... WIP ..image

Salik,

Nice work. Here are some suggestions to refine it a little bit.

You made a pretty good comment about needing the machine hands to be less menacing and more in touch with the rest of the work. I would adjust the lighting and or maybe the materials to lose the stark Black and Whiteness of the hands. Take a look at the way the head is lit, you don't see such harsh lighting on it. Maybe give the metal a little color, brown or blue. Your reflections, if your using them might be reflecting the black environment.

As far as the text, I would at the least adjust the placement.
But overall I think the Text could look cooler and look less like a plain CG bump mapped. I suggest making the text look like its inside this marble ball.
Think ,Lord of rings, There is the swirling dragon in the evil ball.
I would try doing it in Photoshop, Layout the text, apply a Bulge distort, and try some of the transfer modes. Also maybe have the words read vertically, it would work a little better in the composition you have. Should have room for the Team # as well.

Re: Robot holding a ball... WIP ..image

Thank you for the comments RRockafella.... i will def. take them in to consideration... the text effect is way too boring i really want something interesting and unique not a bump map ! so that will def. be changed.
As for refl...they are on but it reflects an environment map not Black...so thats good
