does anyone think that FIRST will check teams for suspicious 7-foot tall human players that cant tell the difference between a muffin fan and a zip tie?

Well, there aren't any rules that say your human player has to be a certain height or IQ...wouldn't that be discriminatory?

Besides...it's just a coincidence that the six foot four guy on our team is a karate student and is the most coordinated out of any of us.

At first, my feelings toward the competition were lukewarm and then I remembered half of my team is on the varsity basketball team!

Good luck!

HAHA...This is great. I can tell you live in Indiana, because my dad and i talked about this exact same thing on my ride back to Purdue. My brother mentioned, "Well, now all the teams are going to grab basketball players.". My dad brought up a good point that the FIRST season falls right on top of the basketball season so chances are there aren't many "true basketball players" (atleast here in Indiana) that would be willing to do it. I know of atleast one guy on our team that would be great for it though. The funny thing is at my old high school, a girls basketball team player would probably be better than one from the guys team. (Kokomo's girls team is pretty good, undefeated state champs last year).

Re: Air Jordan

Our human player who joined us last year happens to be a phenomenal b-ball player and she is also our official robot height guide because she is 5 feet tall! A very usefull person to have on the team and good with all the technical stuff too, certainly bright (going to Penn); gotta love Rhea. But enough bragging. Unfortunately we might have to recruit some other shooters for South Carolina and Nats if we go because she cant make those two comps.

I doubt anyone would get any ringers from college basketball or pro. Maybe they might convince someone from their basketball team to join, but we won't need it I'm pretty good

Human players must be pre-college.

If you were watching the kickoff closely, the lady on the right scored a much higher percentage of shots then Jason did. Jason shot basketball style, the lady (whose name starts with a M, but I can't remember it:-/) threw them soccer throwin style. She got 99%, and missed one when it was full and fell out between the pipes. Jason was shooting closer to 80%.

I really dont think throwing these balls into the goals will be that difficult, why dont you just grab yourslef one of those mobile goals, drag it to yourself and dump the balls over the glass...worked excellent for us in 2002, and if you are going long range thumbs up on the soccer style
Im sure if you cant come up with a human based solution from the start, like throwing them in, use some strategy, good luck guys

Yes, it will be hard. VERY HARD. It's not just like having a basket infront of you. You have a huge board infront of you to shoot over. We had many people try this in the 2001, 2002 season and it's hard to do. VERY hard, even with the moveable goal, it might even be harder since you would have to throw it directly up and over, much harder than in a line.

Re: Air Jordan

Good call on the soccer style throw-in's. The throw is basically a soccer throw in, you've got to get it over a 7 foot obstical (normally a player jumping, but in this case a wall.) Travel 25 feet, and hit a player in the chest or head (about the hight of the stationary goal). We've got the two kids with the best throw-in's on our soccer team on FIRST this year, so I don't think shooting will be a problem. Personally I'm wondering about how much force it takes to pop the multiplyers out of the goals. I can make a wicked throw-in... (legally ambiguous however)...

Yeah thats how it was on my team really, the three of us (driver, controller, and human) were all on the soccer team, so it wasnt too too hard in 2002, considering they were Actual soccer balls, haha, but this year the balls are way more bouncy...but then again, you have more a backboard this year on the stationary goals, its all practice, you saw it wasnt too hard at kickoff
