.dwg from Inventor

I've created a drawing file in inventor, .idw and I want to convert it to a .dwg file. Simple, right? Well no. I save the file as .dwg, then I open it in AutoCAD. When I open it all of the lines are too thick so that you can't see any detail. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

You can change the line thickness in Autocad. Select the geometry you want to change (make sure all layers are on) -> bring up properties -> look for line thickness.

OR you can change the line type by using the "line selector" combo box on the main toolbar (not sure if there is a technical name for this); select all the geometry, then use this box to switch it.

You might try using a different drawing conversion standard, i've seen dfx work well if you have access to it.

I tend to move .dwg to 3D models, not the other way around, let me know if these suggestions don't work and I'll try to figure it out tomarrow.

Thanks, that worked perfectly. There is only one more problem, the drawing is supposed to be on D sized paper, and it looks fine in Inventor, but when I convert it, the page in AutoCAD is taller. How do I change the size of the page in AutoCAD?

Do you mean the border/title block or the sheet size?

The sheet size has to do with what size paper AutoCAD thinks you want to print onto and can be adjusted in "page setup" under FILE.


To be honest with you I've never had to make a drawing with Autocad, I've only used it as a stepping stone between CAM and solid models (and to communicate with people still using 2D CAD systems). I have no clue how to change the border/drawing template, but if it's anything like solidworks and inventor you can find "Sheet properties" somewhere and adjust the paper size.

OR

You can copy all of the geometry out of the drawing and into a new blank file. You could draw a border / title block quickly enough (if one is neccessary).

I have to use autocad tomarrow, I'll make a mental note to look into this for you.
