3 Questions!!! (1/16/04)

Here are today's 3 Questions...

1. What are the names of all the competitions in order?

2. In what year was the pipe field border installed for the first time?

3. In what year was real time scoring first introduced to competition?

Good luck all!

Standings forthcomming...

1. 1992 - Maize Craze
1993 - Rug Rage
1994 - Tower Power
1995 - Ramp 'n' Roll
1996 - Hexagon Havoc
1997 - Toroid Terror

2000 - Co-orpertition FIRST
2001 - Diabolical Dynamics
2002 - Zone Zeal

2004 - FIRST Frenzy: Raising the Bar!

2. I'm guessing you mean complete pipes (rather than the pipes through cables, ala 1995, 1996, etc) so I'm going to say 1997 (first time there were no balls)

3. 1998

Re: 3 Questions!!! (1/16/04)

Maize Craze, Rug Rage, Tower Power, Ramp 'n' Roll, Hexagon Havoc, Toroid Terror, Ladder Logic, Double Trouble, Co-opertition FIRST (worst name), Diabolical Dynamics, Zone Zeal, Stack Attack, FIRST Frenzy

1997 was the first year with solid poles, 2000 was the first year of the field in its current configuration.

1995 - was the first and only year with real time scoring (unless you count the unofficial scoring that has occurred off and on).

Re: 3 Questions!!! (1/16/04)

Question 1:
1992 - Maize Craze
1993 - Rug Rage
1994 - Tower Power
1995 - Ramp n' Roll
1996 - Hexagon Havoc
1997 - Torrid Terror
1998 - Ladder Logic
1999 - Double Trouble
2000 - Co-Opertition FIRST
2001 - Diabolical Dynamics
2002 - Zone Zeal
2003 - Stack Attack
2004 - FIRST Frenzy

Question 2: 1997

Question 3: 1995 - It was a disaster from all accounts that I've heard. FIRST wanted teams to throw the balls through the goal posts, but teams parked right next to the goal posts & held onto the ball while moving it back & forth through the goal posts. I've also heard that the people doing the scoring couldn't keep up with how fast teams passed the ball through the posts which led to incorrect scores.

Re: 3 Questions!!! (1/16/04)

You guys all keep saying that 1997 was the first year of the pipe borders. I have proof in the form of a field blue print from Mystic design company in my archives that clearly shows that in 1997 there were no pipe borders - only 4x4.

So unless you want to count the human player barrier as the field border or they built the field not per print, which I don't remember happening (but then again I am getting older), then you guys must all be guessing.

I remember the 4x4's now that I had a chance to think about it, and not try to get my answer in before everyone else Our robot was designed to pick up the tubes by pressing them against the 4x4.

If you are going to count the pipe rail in front of the human in 1997, then you wouldn't you have to count the pipe rail in front of the human in 1996?

Mr. Bill

Re: 3 Questions!!! (1/16/04)

Andy,

Please subtract 2 points from my total score. I do not deserve the 1 point for a correct answer or the bonus point for a perfect score in 1998. After double checking the video, it shows we got 512 points - the highest score of the year, but definitely not a perfect score. Sorry for the mistake. If you wish to penalize me further for this, I will understand.

Raul,

Thank you for the showing of gracious professionalism. I will take those into account when I tabulate the scores. Furthermore, I forgot to post the answers yesterday because I was out of town....

Answers for 1/16/04...

1.
1992 - Maize Craze
1993 - Rug Rage
1994 - Tower Power
1995 - Ramp 'n' Roll
1996 - Hexagon Havoc
1997 - Toroid Terror
1998 - Ladder Logic
1999 - Double Trouble
2000 - Co-orpertition FIRST
2001 - Diabolical Dynamics
2002 - Zone Zeal
2003 - Stack Attack
2004 - FIRST Frenzy: Raising the Bar!

2. 1998, 1997 had no border other than the 4X4 wood.

3. 1995. Points were scored everytime a ball passed through and a count was kept on the screen as well as the "Whoosh" sound.

Have a great weekend all!
