durability of the pneumatics tires

i was curious about what other teams thought about the durability of the 12.5" pneumatic wheel provided in the kit. although we have not tested the wheels, we expect there is a fair chance that they might be damaged or loose air during the season, enough to warrant the purchasing of at least two extra wheels.

do you think there is a risk of damaging the tire, and if so, what will cause the damage? other things to consider are precautions teams can take to protect their tires, and whether or not the tires can be repaired (like a bicylcle tire).

Re: durability of the pneumatics tires

This topic came up last year as well.

First of all, I guarentee you you will not have a problem with losing air, whether it be from sitting around, or from being popped.

Second, the pneumatic tires have very good wear resistance on carpet, and I expect they will have good longevity this year as well, since there are no really rough surfaces (IE the grating from last year). Last year we reaplced our tires once over two competitions and an offseason. In 2002, we never changed our tires, through regionals, nationals, and an offseason. Keep 2-4 spare tubes/tires handy, and youll be good to go.

Cory
