The "Crunch Time"

Who goes through this? What prevents this?

My team has everyone meet everyday for the 6 week building period. Some teams just have like clamp people one day, drive train another, and that gets their robot done, we do not, and maybe that has caused some problems. This last 4 days, I have been ever so jaded, getting home at 2am in the morning then coming back at 9am that same day. You realize that sleep deprevation makes you laugh and do the strangest things. Anybody have any stories?

Or in my case, sleep deprivation causes me to function at 20% efficiency and I fall asleep in class which is very bad. I learned a valuable lesson last year

... that probably wasn't the kind of story you were looking for was it

Well....I have it REALLY lucky this year, because my february vacation just happens to fall on the ending days. So I didn't sleep at all saturday through monday. The Mountain Dew and Oreos kept me up. There were a couple times where it looked like I coulda been busted for DUI while driving our robot.

Overheard:

"Oh jeez that's the goal!"

"Scott try not to run anybody over"

"Scott hit the belt"

"Scott hit the belt"

"Scott hit the belt"

"I DID!"

edit: Maybe it's just me, but if you're going to not let img tags in the signature, what's the point of letting img tags in the actual body?

Sleep, what is it?

Ok, so at least the 'bot has successfully been shipped and no ALL-Nighter have been pulled from the student build team. One of our funniest momemnts came last night after our robot was demoed to the team. A few members of the team were left cleaning up, and one had a vacuum. It was so funny it was an upright and she was going around singing into the cord. And too make it better it was a smooth jazz type that one of our engineers had that everyone had been making fun of all day. (to give some background, it's in a formal, drab conference room) And to add to this sleep deprevation thing here is a quote to ponder over " The most provocative of things are said durring the most unusual of times. Think about it!"

Red face

After this past week I don't think anyone on our team knows what sleep is exactly, especially the coaches....we love you all We were so tired that one of our coaches fell asleep on the steps (Mr. Johnson) By the end of the weekend we were all so tired we started singing and dancing around too. I think it is a FIRST thing

Cool crunch time

Whew ! Tell me that Im not dreaming Is it really in a box in some warehouse far away and lonley . Singing was definatly the norm on our team. I think this peculuar behavior is our bodies reaction to sleep deprivation. you see as the conditions get worse and everyone is suffering from maximum robot overload. I have actually seen this condition become contagious and spread through the room infecting everyone present.

heh, singing is popular on our team as well, but more so with the adults. In particular, especially during the acclaimed 'crunch time,' we had Elvis music blaring through the assembly room. I dunno, Elvis mixes well with the sound of lightening holes being drilled

Crunch Time

Yea... amazingly, we weren't really pressed for time this year (this first time in forever, I guess!!) But last year we had students here from 6:30 a.m. one morning, working, until we shipped at 5 p.m. the next night! I was only allowed to stay until 2:30 the second morning, but I came in the next day at 6 a.m. (after not having slept at all the previous night, in fear the robot wouldn't get done!) This year we had an **planned** all-nighter - the entire time, the drive train of TOBOR V sat in pieces on the ground and we played basketball the entire time! I think the latest we were here this year was 12:30 - and that was just another student and myself. Yea... being here for those 36 hours was a long time... Though 36 hours is not the longest our team has been awake - at Nationals, sleep is rare!

singing

whats wrong with singing? thats the secret to cutting metal, as long as you talk nicely to it, my favorite is to serenade the metal with my beautiful singing (YA RIGHT) then cut on the bandsaw, or use the mill, you will get great results, and then if you sand the metal (diamond plate is my favorite) you can get it to feel extra smooth (my analogy is a girls hands with lotion), sanded metal....ahhh....how do u think i get the title bandsaw god?

geez, i really need to get out of the shop and get some sleep....
