The FIRST community oftentimes does not commend or appreciate many of the volunteer members for their actions, something that we felt was overlooked time and time again.

This is our way, and Chief Delphi's way, of saying thank you - thank you for all the work these individuals have done, and thank you for their commitment to this program. The dedication of people like the Unsung FIRST Heroes make FIRST what it is. They exude gracious professionalism, a great mental spirit, and the fortitude that make us all proud to be involved. They are an inspiration to this FIRST community and an excellent example. They are the Unsung FIRST Heroes.

Basically, someone that exemplifies the FIRST is about, but has not been formally recognized by FIRST.
