how many teams are off site?

If your team is onsite as school wise, when all after school activities are canceled so are you? I am wondering how many teams are not based in their school? If your not do you still get canceled if your school has al their after school stuff canceled.

Re: how many teams are off site?

Maybe you could change this into a poll.

My old team meets offsite about 99% of the time expect for a few exceptions during the beginning of the year where we would meet at the highschool.

I really cant remember whether we would still meet if school or after school activities got cancelled. I think we would if we had alot of work to do unless the weather was just completely terrible (not even being able to get our of your driveway or whatever). But for the most part we tried to keep to our regular schedule.

Re: how many teams are off site?

Our team is based and mostly meets at our high school. If after school activities are cancelled, school is cancelled, or the school has an early dismissal we can't meet. We've missed some meetings this year due to the weather, however, expecting the big snowstorm we're getting hit with right now in the northeast we temporarily moved our stuff to one of our sponsors (and mentors) business so we can continue working. Unfortunately there isn't enough room for everyone so only the mechanical and eletrical groups are there. Breaking the team up isn't the best arrangement but it's better than not working on the robot at all and falling behind.

Re: how many teams are off site?

when building, we are never at school, however meetings in the off season take place during lunches twice a week in school and during the build season, for some paperwork/updates to those who missed meetings/marketing meetings we have them at school during lunch.

We are based at our school, have no machine shop, work in a 300 square foot room, can't get into the school on weekends, must leave by 10pm, and yes, holidays and snow days means no robots but, life goes on!

Re: how many teams are off site?

I guess we are lucky then, we are building every thing (robot field crate) at our sponsers location. Just yesterday we had a snow day and we still meet, because FIRST doesnt care about the weather, and we still need a working robot.

Re: how many teams are off site?

Cyber Blue 234 is lucky enough to have a tech lab in our school where we have lathes, bandsaws, a mill, and all of the other machinery needed in fabrication. This year we also acquired the old wood shop which is large enough to contain an entire field, or at least most of it. When our school is cancelled because of a snow day, we can still meet, just as long as it's after 3 PM.

Re: how many teams are off site?

The X-Cats work in a sort-of workshop warehouse next to an old warehouse that Xerox used to own. The Al Sigl center is in the building we occupy and we have to share the parking lot with them, which can be a headache at times.

Re: how many teams are off site?

our team meets at Gleason during the build period, and we missed a meeting this wednesday because the school canceled all afterschool activities on account of weather

which meant no bus to Gleason

we are only meeting on wed and sat - so missing a day really stings!

Re: how many teams are off site?

The SPAM Pit is a small building that is made of metal, I think, because no ones' cell phones work inside it, not even half way in the doorway. Pratt gave us a bunch of very large machines, I think a mill, bandsaw, jigsaw, and a bunch of other funny names. The middle of the room consists of an area to drive the robot around, but was too small to set up last year's ramp. The other end has a storage closet with our older robots and other stuff, it is more like a museum. Also, there is a software room there with a few computers that don't really work. Everyone just brings their laptops. The building is behind one of the two schools on our team. The school has a huge covered area outside that we could set up the ramp last year.

Our team usually doesn't meet when there is no school, but our meeting planning is very informal and we just say "we might meet tomorrow night to do test out whatever". During the build season, we meet just about every night.
