Network Rendering in 3dsmax

I was wondering how you render your animation by rendering from say, 5 or more computers. I know there's a way of doing it but I don't know how to.

Re: Network Rendering in 3dsmax

You can set up a render farm, though you need to purchase additional licenses for that.

I dont think so. The render nodes dont have to have licenses, as long as you use default scanline renderer. Its only the content creation machine that has to have a license. For details on how to set up a render farm - look in 3ds reference and search for network rednering - they have a very good step-by-step guide.

You will install 3ds max on all the machines.
Then you will find that 3ds max has named the Network rendering: Backburner. I can't quote the exact settings/procedure that you'll need to use but you will run all the rendering machines in server mode and one of the machines will run the manager that will connect up to all the slaves in server mode and send them files to render.
The manual/Reference is pretty clear on getting this to work. As long as your computers are networked together and seeing each other it shouldn't be to diiffcult.
