Go to Post By far, the worst thing about it was the severe lack of cowbell. There was no cowbell what so ever. Had there been cowbell that would have completely changed everything for me. - Wildcat [more]

How Many Motors Have You Dropped This Year?

We're looking to see how many other times other teams have dropped drill motors.

In the controls group of our team, we've dropped two. And, well, we're controls. We don't touch motors that often...

Toss em if you drop em...

We have a rule in our plants: Dropped Motors are Scrapped Motors.

It is very easy to cause damage that is unseen to the motors. The damage is lurking, waiting for you to need maximum power during the Finals of The Grand Championships. Then BAM! a magnet chip drops out of place wedging between the can of the motor and the armature. Your robot is doing the circle dance for the rest of the match. It hurts to even think about it...

I know it is hard to toss a motor that cost $20 or $30, but that is my recommendation. Either don't drop them or pitch them if you do.

Re: How Many Motors Have You Dropped This Year?

So far, the engineers only admit to dropping one. I can't find the other. I wonder where it might be?

Re: How Many Motors Have You Dropped This Year?

yeah my drive-train team has dropped 2, but we were able to fix them so that we have something to practice with. and the fabrication team has dropped 1 of our older ones... that we havent been able to fix yet.

pretty soon we're going to start the rule that before you touch the motor you have to cover your hands in glue before you can pick it up

we have 4 more ordered and on the way, but we cant let anyone drop anymore
