Designs for control board?

I'm currently working on a design for our control board. It has to allow for roughly 20 switches and two joysticks. Help soon pretty please? ^^

20 switches you say? My my my...

If you require 20 switches to operate your robot in the match, rethink your control system. Anyways, suggestions for this would have to be to build on station for joysticks for your driver and one station for your operator to stand next to the driver to use. 108 always uses lexan or plexiglass on our controllers because its pretty, heh.

Gimme a shout @ aim screenname: specialagentjim and let me know what in the world you need 20 switches for.

The OI can't even handle 20 switches! It only has 4 digital inputs on each port -- a total of 16. If you really need that many switches, you might be able to do something with some of the analog inputs, though I'm not sure how that would work.

This thread has some ideas for using digital switches with the analog inputs: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=19789

Well, 16 different bits that can be either 0 or 1, means 2^16 combinations. You might not have 20 switches, but certainly 20+ functions! You can remember and enter long binary codes for varying functions quickly and competively, no? Sounds like a task for some creative wiring and programming (noting which switch combinations won't show up together).

Re: Designs for control board?

That's a lot of switches... A few years ago we had 4 switches, and it required a lot of practice to push the right one at the right time, i wish you luck in programming and implementing that. is there not a more efficient way to use the joysticks? they have some buttons... as for the 2^16 combinations, that's an interesting idea, but reeeeaaalllly complicated. it's true, but i don't think my team would have had time to wire/program something like that, let alone have it work and practice/debug it. anyway, that's a lot of functions. if 20 switches means 40 functions, you'll probably need at least 2 of the inputs, if you try the combination method.
