Re: The Ever-Crazy Mac vs. PC debate
Ive used both. I hate both, but I'm going to stick to my PC. Back in high school the yearbook staff used Macs with adobe pagemaker and photoshop ranging from OS 8 to OS 9.2 and I tell you that OS 9.2 is total garbage. I've yet to check out OSX, but aparently from what I've read and heard its a major improvement from the previous versions. The one thing that really urks me about Macs is the file server that they purchased to store the yearbook. That thing was down more then it worked. I think they sent it back and had it replaced/repaired at least 3 times over an 18 month period. If it wasn't for making backups on zip disks, the 02 yearbook would never have been finished. The other thing that bothers me is pricing. The cheapest non-student discount computer that I've seen is 799. The laptop I bought in September was 100 dollars cheaper (after rebates and stuff). It may not be the most powerful machine ever, but it does everything I need it to do. I'm not convinced that its worth the extra money for what I need, especially on a college student "budget." Maybe one day when I aquire some money I'll purchase a mac. For now, i'm sticking with my pc.

Re: The Ever-Crazy Mac vs. PC debate
Windows - Gaming, Some graphiics stuff which does not work on Linux and Mac
Mac - Anything and everything possible. I love that thing. I've just had bad experiences with Windows. I feel a mac is much more secure and reliable. In my eyes, Windows has too many flaws. |

Re: The Ever-Crazy Mac vs. PC debate
Well, I'm sure any OS would have just as many security flaws if 90% of all home PCs ran it. Although I do agree that a Unix-based system offers more security due to user priveleges, the biggest part to security is the user. Windows users range from 3-year-olds, grandmothers, and hackers (jargon file meaning). I don't think my Grandmother would be able to figure out the difference between a screensaver I emailed to her or a virus that was spoofed using my email address.
(Wow.. I'm really arguing both sides here.. oh well ) |

Re: The Ever-Crazy Mac vs. PC debate
Macs are so much easier and simpler to use. Especially when it comes to multimedia.
I have used both extensively and love how much OS X is intergraded with everything. Most of the people who hate macs, don't know anything about macs. I have heard all of it, and trust me none of it make sense, and they often present mis-information. Personally I don't care which OS people use. But I believe that people should look for alternative OSes instead of just Windows. |

Re: The Ever-Crazy Mac vs. PC debate
I have used both, and worked on both.
In my opinion as many others have said they both have their advantages. Windows are good for games and Macs are good for multimedia and also are becoming good for games. My solution to this is virtual PC which in it newest version was bought and is now owned by Microsoft, so it should work fairly good. And to DJ's comment about the 2002 year book they only had problems becasue I was not there due to not passing a class and having to retake it, or I had graduated since he wasn't clear which one he talked about. |
