As for my team a student caught his finger in an end mill a few years ago. He had shut the machine off but tried to measure something while it was still coasting. It sliced his finger good and required stiches and he was lucky it wasn't worse. As for me I fell backwords when I was little and gashed my head open on the coffee table. I had to get stiches and the coffee table was permanently removed from the living room. |

the worst I can think of this year for the team in general is a massive burn on one of the freshmen's hand. it's in a really creepy circular shape and has been swollen for a few weeks now. yeech. |

Re: Worst injury
We had a lot of problems at anap, once the robot fell off the cart and the chinup system hit someone on the head. He had to go to the hospital and get 3 staples, but he was back later that day. While watching a later match where we did a chinup and got 185 pts (!) the jumping up and down and such caused it to start bleeding again. Back to the hospital, 3 more staples. He's fine now, and has forgiven the chinup system since it helped us win!
He was fine the whole time except for the bleeding, and apparently got some interesting pictures of him smiling with blood on his shirt, etc. Those that were there might remember the guy from the naval base, before the "quiz" said "I know your head probably hurts by now...." to which dave said "you dont know the half of it!" Right before we were called up to get our trophy/metals the grandfather of a teammate (who had also helped the team with his machine shop) collapsed. He was also taken to the hospital, and I'm told he is going to be fine as well. Last edited by ReggieB : 21-03-2004 at 07:18. Reason: Forgot quote |

Re: Worst injury
Personally, my injuries have been nothing big.
Last year, I tried out for comp. team and myself and another student, Joe, were picking the robot up. Joe stand taller then I do and when he picked up the one end...it tilted to the side and well...I ended up getting knocked in the head. No blood lose or anything though. And just today our robot was running autonomous when it suddenly decided I was prey. It zoomed off target and straight at me. Luckily, I didn't get hit and hey...Since I happened to be holding a camera, filming, I got a great shot of the robot going straight at me! I think Video Crew has had more then one bad incounter with our robot trying to get at us. I don't think it likes being on camera ![]() |

Re: Worst injury
I think this year we have been rather well off. I've just lost a bit of blood from randomly just slicing my finger with a steel shaving and that has been it for the team

Re: Worst injury
One of our great student machinists, Jennifer, was using the mill when the end mill snapped... one piece hit Pierre (a college student) in the forehead, the other hit his safety glasses dead on. Luckily he had glasses on and the gash was small and insignificant.

Re: Worst injury
well... this part that we wanted to use, which we fondly called "The Monster", very aptly named, because whenever someone picked up this thing they were GUARANTEED to cut themselves AT LEAST once. One of the guys cut his hand so many times, with all the bandaids and all, it looked like his hand had been hit by a lawn mower
Scary... |

Re: Worst injury
Our team's worst recent injury was at a regional when someone forgot that a soldering iron was turned on. He grabbed it by the tip and got a small burn, I think a second degree burn. The soldering iron got a small black fingerprint.
