Back up battery

does anyone know if we can use a different type of 7.2v battery for the back up battery??

You can use a different battery, as long as it matches the same specs as the FIRST provided one.

From what i saw on the First Q&A any 7.2 volt nicad battery pack is allowed, but u cannot make your own battery pack to use for this purpose.

"Q: The RC backup battery has to be yellow?
A: No. Use the Edubot or any 7.2V NiCad battery. See R39."

"Q: Can we use a battery pack that we assembled ourselves, using 6 AA NiMH cells? They have the same voltage (1.2V x 6) as NiCad cells, but more capacity (1600AH) and no memory effect.
A: No. See R39."

I interpret the reason that the last one is illegal is not because they made their own battery pack, but because they wanted to use NiMH batteries. <R39> states that you must use NiCad.

You can buy the connector from Innovation First for $3.50, if you already have the battery pack.
