Grabbing the 10 pt ball in autonomous

Is anyone grabbing the 10 pt ball in autonomous ball? Or is everyone just knocking the ball off the tee?

from MIT's Cogshop FAQ: "Robotics requires a very robust background (or, alternatively, a person with just about any background can work in robotics). There are elements of computer science, mechanical engineering, cognitive science, and lots of mathematics in the work that we do. There's also a great deal of "hacking" involved. "Hacking" is the art of taking something apart, breaking it, putting it back together with improvements, and then acting like you knew what you were doing all along."

we will have our rollers set to grab but it doesn't matter to us if we get it or not as long as it is knocked off the tee

Re: Grabbing the 10 pt ball in autonomous

We're just knocking. We lost our line sensors to try to bring our weight down, so we might not even be able to knock it off reliably. (Not that the sensors weigh much, but the housing did) Thankfully though, our primary autonomous mode works perfectly.

Re: Grabbing the 10 pt ball in autonomous

Knocking only. (If I can get the stupid code to work. The one turn is completely screwy, because something like 45 percent of the weight is on one wheel)

We also hope to make it a living nightmare for anyone to ever grab the ten pointer.

Me too. But I doubt it will happen. I'd like to be able to grab all four. There will be many matches where none of the balls get touched. Ideally you would want a machine who could either grab both the bonus balls. Return them to the corral. Go grab the other bonus balls and return them to the corral. If you can do this with good HP's and cap and hang you will win most matches without having to worry about the small balls. (((6 starter balls x 5 pts) + (4 bonus ball x 10 pts)) * 2 when capped) + 50 for hanging = 190 pts. That's 190 pts practically by yourself. If your alliance and you can get 5 more smalls balls that's like 240. Bonus balls are worth the time, I just don't know if we can do it.
