A bit of fun.. you might be an engineer if...

many of you have probably seen this but I thought it worth posting the day after ship...

You might be an engineer/(FIRST member) if . . .

. . . you have no life and can prove it mathematically.

. . . you enjoy pain.

. . . you know vector calculus but you can’t remember how to do long division.

. . . you chuckle whenever anyone says “centrifugal force.”

. . . you’ve actually ever used every single function on your graphing calculator.

. . . when you look in the mirror, you see an engineering major.

. . . it is sunny and 70 degrees outside, and you are working on a computer.

. . . you frequently whistle the theme song to “MacGyver.”

. . . you always do homework on Friday nights.

. . . you know how to integrate a chicken and can take the derivative of water.

. . . you think in “math.”

. . . you’ve calculated that the World Series actually diverges.

. . . you hesitate to look at something because you don’t want to break down its wave function.

. . . you have a pet named after a scientist.

. . . you laugh at jokes about mathematicians.

. . . the Humane Society has had you arrested because you actually performed the Schroedinger’s Cat Experiment.

. . . you can translate English into Binary.

. . . you can’t remember what’s behind the door in the science building which says "Exit.”

. . . you have to bring a jacket with you, in the middle of summer, because there’s a wind-chill factor in the lab.

. . . you are completely addicted to caffeine.

. . . you avoid doing anything because you don’t want to contribute to the eventual heat-death of the universe.

. . . you consider any non-science course “easy.”

. . . when your professor asks you where your homework is, you claim to have accidentally determined its momentum so precisely, that according to Heisenberg it could be anywhere in the universe.

. . . the “fun” center of your brain has deteriorated from lack of use.

. . . you’ll assume that a “horse” is a “sphere” in order to make the math easier.

. . . you understood more than five of these indicators.

. . . you make a hard copy of this list and post it on your office door.

. . . you think it might be a neat idea to send this message to all of your friends in the form of email...or post it on Chief Delphi

. . . you know the glass is neither half full nor half empty; it's simply twice as big as it needs to be. (from mduffin3)

Congrats to everyone for their hard work for six weeks
NOW the fun begins!!!

Re: A bit of fun.. you might be an engineer if...

you stand next to a water fall, and within a few minutes you are estimating how much water is going over, how much energy that represents, and how many homes could be powered if the water were diverted to a dam.

You are flying in a commercial aircraft, and the pilot announces 'we are now flying at 32,000 feet' - within a few minutes you calculate how far you can see on the horizon, and if you were to fall out of the plane at this alt, how long until you reach the ground.

you are standing next to a body of water, and within a few minutes you are able to calculate "if I jump in, how much will the water rise due to my added volume"

I don't get it, the non-science courses are the hard courses.
The science courses are the easy ones .

I really need to do this... Better yet, it would be too much fun to start telling the passengers around you, "Well, if the plane were to disintegrate right now, you would hit the ground in x seconds."

Remember to calculate the terminal velocity of your airplane too!

if you jump out of the plane and freefall your terminal velocity is about 200 mph, due to the wind resistance.

Yes, if you are balled up... stick your arms and legs out and you cut it down to 125mph.

... not that you won't die anyway.

Word to the wise: THAT DOESN'T WORK! Believe me, I tried that excuse last year. Didn't work. Got a good laugh though.

you might be an engineer if

when asked where your homework is

you can honestly say "my robot ate it!"

Re: A bit of fun.. you might be an engineer if...

Real engineers:

- dont care about astetics, only function

- know you cant push a rope or chain

- know that sometimes you have to push a rope or chain

- demand that you listen to what they mean, not what they said

- can explain to you why a base model Saturn is 'faster' than a corvette, if you make less than $7 an hour

- know that imaginary numbers are actually real, and that the real world is whats imaginary

- can draw you a graph on a napkin at a chinese resturant to prove that you should order the shrimp instead of the chicken

- wear a pocket protector to keep lint out of their pen, not to keep ink off their shirt

-know that a 'slide rule' is not a regulation pertaining to playground equipment

...if you take a CAD drawing course your freshman year of high school using mechanical desktop

...if at a hockey game, you see a puck flying into the stands and know you can calculate how long the puck has been in the air and the amount of distance it traveled

...if you discovered the unified equation of Krispy Kreme longetivity (l=p+t, the longitivity of the kk is equal to its proximity to a robotics team member plus how long it was since it was fresh)
...you realize that, on second thought, freshness doesnt matter all that much
