you stand next to a water fall, and within a few minutes you are estimating how much water is going over, how much energy that represents, and how many homes could be powered if the water were diverted to a dam.
You are flying in a commercial aircraft, and the pilot announces 'we are now flying at 32,000 feet' - within a few minutes you calculate how far you can see on the horizon, and if you were to fall out of the plane at this alt, how long until you reach the ground. you are standing next to a body of water, and within a few minutes you are able to calculate "if I jump in, how much will the water rise due to my added volume" |

if you jump out of the plane and freefall your terminal velocity is about 200 mph, due to the wind resistance.

Yes, if you are balled up... stick your arms and legs out and you cut it down to 125mph.
... not that you won't die anyway. |
