You are flying in a commercial aircraft, and the pilot announces 'we are now flying at 32,000 feet' - within a few minutes you calculate how far you can see on the horizon, and if you were to fall out of the plane at this alt, how long until you reach the ground.

you are standing next to a body of water, and within a few minutes you are able to calculate "if I jump in, how much will the water rise due to my added volume"

I really need to do this... Better yet, it would be too much fun to start telling the passengers around you, "Well, if the plane were to disintegrate right now, you would hit the ground in x seconds."

Remember to calculate the terminal velocity of your airplane too!

if you jump out of the plane and freefall your terminal velocity is about 200 mph, due to the wind resistance.

Yes, if you are balled up... stick your arms and legs out and you cut it down to 125mph.
