Cool FireWire ;-)

So, how many teams have cooked more motors than hamburgers this year? We sure have.

I guess we call our robot the firewire for a reason....

Don't get bad ideas, our robot DOES work! (i mean it will)

no burnt motors... when we were demonstrating our robot to a group of high ranking people we managed to make more smoke come off our robot then i thought was in it... it came from the general area of our controller, so you can imagine how freaked out we got. It ended up being un-connected sensor wires shorted and ALL the insulation burnt off... smokey mess, im truely suprised we didnt set off the fire alarm- all the night before shipping!

We saw smoke

Our drivetrain uses both the FP and Drill. After running the bot for over an hour straight the solder melted off the two Drill and only the FP were left. The robot continued on for another 10 minutes on only half power until the FP went up in smoke, it looks like the fan in the motor melted. (we even had full heatsinks too) after that we gave it a rest after about 15 minute intervals

We smoked a ground wire going to the digital input because a wire got crushed in part of the frame during frame assembly.

Fortunately it was a tiny 24.guage wire that got fried, and was easily replaced. And we made sure it couldn't get caught in the frame again.

We would never have found out about the crushed wire if someone hadn't accidently touched a power wire to the frame.
