Re: LOTR Sweeps the Oscars

First off let me say that I loved watching all three, having no prior knowledge of the books I belive that Peter Jackson did a wonderful job telling the story of the ring.

With that said...

The only reason that LOTR swept the oscars was because of the length of there production schedule. Most movies spend anywhere from a couple of weeks i.e. (Independent films, most noteably Thirteen and Elephant) to many many months of constant filming i.e. Blockbusters such as Apoclypse now, and many others.

LOTR beats any of these huge productions out by at the very least a couple of years. I belive that because all three movies culmintated with ROTK that the acadmey decided that this years oscars is when it should get it dues i.e. The Sweep.

It won all the technicaly categories becuase the people working on those aspects of the movie had years... not months to perfect everything about there section of the movie(s) weather it be Sound, Lighting, Art Direction or some other of the 11 categories it won.

On a final note, notice how nobody from any LOTR movie had an acting nomination.

Please take this post with a grain of salt, belive me I really like movies this is just my opinion on a certian few.

LOTR swept the Oscars as a reward to the whole film series as a majir achievement in filmaking history.
There were no acting niminations because no one actor stood out from the fine ensamble (though Sean Astin got serious consideration).
The technical wins were expected as films like this are usually helmed by the cream of the crop in the choosen field (though I do find it strange that it was not nominated for cinematography and Sound effects editing. It didn't deserve best adapted screenplay. That should have went to American Speldor or Mystic River. Two films that leaned more heavily on the script than LOTR:ROTK did.

Re: LOTR Sweeps the Oscars

The Oscars are not as big as they used to be...

That being said, it did deserve the awards it recieved. I agree with both music awards it won and best supporting actor (Hobbits never say die). Best picture is one I'd be a little shaky about... I personally thought Matrix Revolutions was better, but that's a whole different story. However, it won some pretty lousy awards IMO. Makeup and sound mixing? Woohoo

Re: LOTR Sweeps the Oscars

Since we're talking about LOTR, I was wondering if anyone else has heard ot the Lord of the Rhymes. I think that they are a bunch of idiots. They are a rap group that got their music from the Tolkein books. I really don't know how they got rap stuff from LOTR. Let me know what you think.
