Lightbulb Just some thoughts about FIRST I had while trying to fall asleep during build season

FIRST is not just a competition;
FIRST is not just a weekend (or five) of fun;
FIRST is not just rejoicing when your robot actually works
FIRST is not just gracious professionalism;
FIRST is not just the first 6 weeks of the year;
FIRST is not just staying at school until 11 and 12 at night;
FIRST is not just a time to make friends, and re-unite with old ones;
FIRST is not just For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
FIRST is not just an organization;
FIRST IS A WAY OF LIFE;
We all live it everyday
The constant stress, the fundraising, the build, the competition, all while trying to fit a personal life somewhere in between.
FIRST IS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE;
I've heard it said by many more than one individual,
We learn more in this six weeks, then we do in all the rest of our high school career.
FIRST IS SOMETHING NOT ONE OF US WOULD GIVE UP;
We all love FIRST. None of us could live without FIRST
FIRST IS PERPETUAL;
Even if Dean, and Woodie, and Dave, all dropped off the face of the earth, FIRST would live on, somebody would take over.
FIRST IS MAGICAL;
Where else can you see a GM and FORD logo on the same piece of machinery?
Where else can you see around 1700 schools all together, sharing, making friends, and helping each other fix their robot?
Where else can you see people from ALL OVER THE WORLD compete in the same robotics competition?
FIRST IS SPECIAL;
THERE IS JUST NO DENYING IT!

~FIRST FOREVER!~

These are just a few of my thoughts, feel free to add your own!

Did you come up with that all by yourself!!?!? That all was very well said. Every couple months there is a post like this. I don't know what you call that kind of post really but I sure do like it.

Insightful, maybe?

It's always nice to see people realize this...It looks like FIRST is accomplishing its goals after all.

We've had a couple of FIRST-spoof songs done...the one that came to mind the quickest was here, which was done in 02.

And in my head, I can still hear Anton doing the best he can to sing along

All we need now, if for somebody to sing it.

Very good "poem" I enjoyed it very much.

Re: Just some thoughts about FIRST I had while trying to fall asleep during build season

FIRST is hope………

In a rural community that owes its existence to now dwindling coal mines, FIRST is hope.

To children who see no way out of the darkness of ignorance, FIRST is hope.

In a town that feels like it is taking its last breath, FIRST is hope.

If a team survives here, we have a chance. If not; we have little or nothing.

For us in the parched eastern desert of Utah, FIRST will be like rain.

Re: Just some thoughts about FIRST I had while trying to fall asleep during build season

Oh, but FIRST already DOES have an anthem. They just don't play it at the competitions anymore for some reason:

Strangers we were
Brought together in a blur
Six weeks came and went.
We learned through experience
We showed our benevolence
Not once did we relent

What was once untold
Is the knowledge we now hold
FIRST the foundation
For today's generation.
Heroes in the make
As technology wakes.

Joys, pains
Highs, lows.
Experiences made us close,
Enthusiastic with a smile.

Haven't heard that before...then again, 2003 was my first year of being involved with FIRST.

Any chance someone has an MP3 or WAV or something of that anthem for us FIRST newbies to hear?
