Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

I think that we ripped open 3 or 4 5pt. balls at the Pittsburgh Regional.

Can you really count that? It looks like the goal popped that one, not the robot.

Would it still have counted as a 2X?

Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

I think team 422 gets credit for popping the first 5pt ball in a practice round... We were testing several methods of getting up the 6 in. platform at the DC practice arena, and having succeeded in getting up one way we went off the platform full-tilt to try another way and landed on a 5pt ball, causing it to explode underneath us and send us on our side. Ever since then we have nicknamed them "land mines" since they explode underneath your robot. Needless to say, when we got back from Washington the first thing on our lists to fix was an "anti-land mine" device.

Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

Deflated one in the practice rounds, still managed to get hold of another multiplier and cap. Popped another in qualifieing rounds, and yet again, grapped the other to cap.

the robot pushed it against the goal and popped it, but it was mostly the goal's fault.

The purple 5 pt balls count if they end up in the goal deflated, so im assuming that busted 2x ball would still count as a doubler....

Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

293 popped 2 2x balls at the mid atlatintic regional. They were both from sharp spots on our expanded alluminum side panels. Once we filed down the sharp spots we didn't have any problems. Its pretty funny when the balls pop becasue instead of deflating into a yellow blob they just dissapear like balloons.

we popped both a 5 point and 2x ball in qualifying matches, and while testing our gripper with our own 2x ball on the practice field, it slipped, fell, and popped on our goal latch hooks. a few teams were watching (i think spam, demo squad, and a few others), and a sympathetic "awww" could be heard.

so how about you?
I popped two practice 5 point balls on the sharp PVC pipe tops on our practice mobile goal. Both had a substantial flap torn in them, which inspired our Strategy & Gaming Mentor to draw sad faces on them, with flaps for mouths, and a speech bubble that said "Petey Broke Me".

I also managed to snap a mallet in two banging a PVC pipe into a stationary goal. Strong like bull.

Eric is correct. We definitely stabbed at least one ball with our pointy, spear-like goal grabber in addition to the one in the practice round (in the video). The other one I saw was between the robot and the goal; the ball didn't stand a chance.

We smoothed the welds on the arm after we popped that one in the practice round so maybe we should 'de-pointify' our goal grabber too ...

Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

Someone at VCU popped a 2X ball, the team was wearing it like a prize. Team 836 has popped some 10 pt balls at home but not at competion. We were grabbing the 10 pt ball on our playing field and POP!! For some reason that drill motor we use for our arm was just too much LOL...

Yeah we were letting go of it in the stationary goal and it rolled out of the goal. At the same time, I believe 461 was coming up to the goal and the 2x bounced into their robot arm and the goal simultaneously and popped. I think 461 even had a 2x ball in their gripper. The popped ball was drooped over the top of one pole. And yes, it would have counted as a doubler. If your robot can get a deflated 2x ball in a goal, it will count as a doubler.

Re: how many balls have YOU deflated?

just wondering...would deliberately blowing up a big multiplier ball end up being a foul play or penalty? for example we say that one team capped our stationary goal and we want to take it out. Could we just squish it so it won't count or is that a bad idea?

First off thats deliberate damage to the playing field and you can be DQ'ed for it. Next off a squished ball still counts for the same face value as if it was blown up. If a team repetedly damages balls (or any part of the field/other bots) you prob would be ask out of the competition until the problem causing the damage was resolved.
