Globe motor - no lubrication in gears!

One of our Globe motors was making a grinding noise after a tough match, so I dismantled it. The 2 sets of planetary gears inside were completely dry - with only dried residue of whatever grease was put in during manufacture.
It runs much smoother and quieter now after I added some lubricant (Honda Moly 60 grease).

To dismantle the gearbox you push the three small roll-pins around the circumference all the way into the gearbox. You can then pull the gearbox off the motor. To reassemble, you push the roll pins back in from the outside.

Re: Globe motor - no lubrication in gears!

JS,
This is highly unusual. Dried out lubricant in these motors is usually a sign of overheating or being stored at an elelvated temperature. The type of lubricant you use also affects the running current and free speed so be aware of those changes.
