Congratulations to 1114 Simbotics

Hey Guys, way to set the new standard for all teams in Canada. Three awards at the Long Island Regional (Champions, Delphi Driving Tomorrow's Technology and Autodesk Visualization) demonstrate a team that is as well-rounded and capable as their robot this year. Truly, nothing is greater than seeing a Canadian team do this well, in only their second year of existence. Personable, friendly, great people and a great team to work with. Looking extremely forward to seeing everyone at Canadian again in 11 days!
Congratulations Again!

Re: Congratulations to 1114 Simbotics

Team 527 would also like to congratulate Team 1114 on their awards and victory at SBPLI. We had the privilege of running with them for one match on Saturday and although we didn't win, we were extremely impressed by their robot and more importantly their team character. In the very next round, they knocked us off the platform but were kind enough to offer help to get us running again. They lent us degreaser and helped us get our broken winch locking collar changed just in time for our next match. Congratulations 1114, we will cheer for you at the other events!

Exactly! Team 30 also had the privilege of working with Team 1114 on Friday and we loved their enthusiasm. They had an amazing robot and were incredibly supportive of us throughout the match. We had not done quite so well on Friday morning and weren't feeling so confident about our robot, but they were ecstatic about the win and were adamant about giving us as much credit for it as possible.

Their attitude was positive and infectious and really boosted our enthusiasm, sending us on a 6 game winning streak. They were friendly and outgoing to us for the rest of the regional, talking to us about standings and entertaining my stupid questions about how their drive train worked.

In other words, I was really impressed.

Congratulations guys, you not only have an awesome robot but an awesome team and we were thrilled for you when you won!

On the same note we'd like to congratulate Team 311 for their incredible robot and Team 229, another group who entertained more stupid questions about drive trains. =)

Congratulations all around to everyone at SBPLI, it was a great regional and I thought there was a great amount of spirit and enthusiasm.

Re: Congratulations to 1114 Simbotics

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. This weekend was the best experience I've had in my seven years involved with FIRST. I'd like to thank everyone who made this possible. Special thanks go out to teams 311 and 229 for making up the best alliance I've ever worked with. We all brought different strengths to table that managed to mesh perfectly.

I'll post more of my thoughts on the SBPLI event tomorrow.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Canadian Regional or Nationals.

Re: Congratulations to 1114 Simbotics

Now that I've slept for almost 40 hours with a couple two hour breaks mixed in, here are my thoughts on the Long Island regional.

The qualification rounds were quite exciting, with a huge battle occuring for the number one seed. In the end it was 311 who managed to come out on top of this struggle. We finished third, despite hanging in all ten of our matches. That's how tough the competition was on the Island.

The elimination rounds were fantastic. I think a lot of teams were caught off guard by the defensive strategy our alliance employed. I've always said the best offense is a good defense, and never has that statement been more apt than in Long Island. Team 229 were like the 1985 Chicago Bears, there was no forward progress against them. The crowd was stunned by how they controlled the field. This allowed 311 or 1114, to take control of the bar. We never lost a match in which 229 played.

Our alliance was an equal partnership. All three teams contributed to this victory.

All weekend long we loved talking to all the teams who took the time to come visit our pits. There were so many great teams and people at this event, we loved sharing our enthusiasm with everyone.

To sum it all up, Thanks to everyone who made this event what it was. Team 1114 had a great time, and we can't wait to do it again next year.

See you all in Toronto or Atlanta.. eh. =)
